ULYSSES E. HARNER
Ulysses E. Harner died Tuesday afternoon at 3:15 at his home
north of the river bridge and south of Percival after an illness
of three days duration, pneumonia being the cause of his death.
Mr. Harner was born December 1, 1873 and was united in marriage
on September 15, 1892 in Nebraska City to Miss Ida Brily. He is
survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. Roy
Williamson, Nebraska City; William George, Clayton Charles and
Hazel at home. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Harner also survive.
Funeral services were held at the family home Thursday at 11
o'clock with Rev. L. R. Patton of Nebraska City officiating. The
pallbears were Thomas, George, William, Fuller and Clarence
Fivecoats, Charles Duncan, George Ruff and Wendall Hanks.
Interment was made in the Thurman cemetery.

Anna McGargill
High mass was held for Miss Anna McGargill who died very suddenly
at her home at 11:30 o'clock Monday night. The services were held
at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at the St. Patrick church. The
service was conducted by Father Troy assisted by Father Melville
of Shenandoah and Father Fortal of Red Oak. Mrs. Herbert Sullivan
sang "Nearer, My God to Thee" and Miss Isadore sang
"Face to Face," which was one of Miss McGargill's
favorite songs and Miss Katie Dempsey played. The pall bearers
were her six nephews, who were Jerome and Gerald McGargill,
Omaha, Edward and Leo McGargill, Imogene and Leo and Joe Fox of
David City, Nebraska.
Miss McGargill's death came as a shock to everyone in the
community as she had not been ill. She assisted in the music at
the funeral of Miss Agnes Guttschenritter on Monday morning and
had worked at the First National bank where she was assistant
cashier in the afternoon. In the evening she had company and had
not complained of being ill. After they had left the McGargill
home, she had made preparations to go to Omaha on the following
day. About 11 o'clock she phoned the family physician, Dr. T.G.
O'Connor. When the latter arrived he thought that the invalid
mother, Mrs. Elizabeth McGargill had taken worse, but upon
investigatin found Miss McGargill sitting in the kitchen, gasping
her last breath. She died in a very few moments after the doctor
arrived.
Miss McGargill was forty-three years old and has been employed at
the First National Bank for about twenty years where she will be
greatly missed. She was a very prominent woman taking an active
part in the church affairs, as well as affairs of the town. She
was elected city treasurer at the last election and was formerly
state treasurer of the ladies auxilliary of Hiberian lodge. Miss
McGargill was a graduate of the St. Francis academy of Council
Bluffs and a very talented woman. She had a very pleasing voice
and sang solos at various affairs here as well as in Omaha and
Council Bluffs. She was secretary of the Red Cross during
theWorld war and was in charge of the Roll Call for December
1922.
The deceased was born and reared the home farm two miles south of
Imogene and was the youngest child. Miss McGargill is survived by
her invalid mother, Mrs. Eliza McGargill and three sisters, Mrs.
Amy Printy of Milwaukee and Mrs.Mattie Fox and Mrs. Ida Dward of
David City, Nebraska and two sister-in-laws, Mrs. Fannie
McGargill, Imogene and Mrs. Lizzie McGargill of Omaha and a
number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs George Cupp
Mrs. George Cupp, aged 68 years, passed away at the family home
on Tuesday night, following a two week's illness with pneumonia.
She had been under the care of two nurses. She is survived by six
children, Mrs. Ed Hall of Boulder, Colo., M. E. Cupp of Hastings,
Mrs. R.S. Husband, Mrs. Ed Mullen, Cassel and Clifford all of
Thurman and her husband, George Cupp. The funeral services were
held on Thursday at the home, conducted by Charles Aitken of
Bartlett. Interment was made in Thurman cemetery.
