THE EXEMPTION BOARD FOR FREMONT COUNTY,
COMPOSED OF SHERIFF DILTS, AUDITOR ELLIS AND DR. J. M. LOVELADY
COMPLETE WORK OF NUMBERING REGISTRATION LIST FOR SELECTIVE DRAFT
The exemption board for Fremont county, composed of Sheriff
Dilts, Auditor Ellis and Dr. J. M. Lovelady, completed the work
of numbering the registration list for the selective draft last
Saurday, and sent an official copy to the adjutant general of the
State, another copy to the army headquarters at Washinton, posted
a list in the court house for public inspection, and a fourth
list was given to the Herald for publication.
No definite news has been received as to when or how the draft
will be made, but it is expected it will be made within the next
week, possibly by the end of this week. The manner of the human
lottery is still a mystery, the latest statement being that all
the numbers will be drawn and filed away in serial order for
future use, but only 679,000 men who are finally accepted will be
used in the first draft.
The Herald herewith prints portion of the serial numbers
and names which run from 1 to 1386, with the postoffice
addresses, but no other distinction as to locality or precinct.

Lewis Heard From
J. F. Lewis, former associate editor of the Herald, who
recently went to Montana, writes from Ekalaka in that state,
clamoring for late isues of the Herald. He also sends a
copy of the Beaver Valley Press, published at Ekalaka,
which gives an account of the celebration of the Fourth at
Ridgway, in which it is stated "John F. Lewis, editor of the
Sidney (Iowa) Herald was orator of the day and delivered
an instructive and patriotic address on the world wide war."
Also, Jay Lewis, a brother of John, "delivered one of his
off-hand cowboy harangues in which he eulogized Montana and
outlined the possibilities of our grand new state."

Tabor News
-Arthur Mauk surprised his friends July 14 by bringing home Mrs.
Arthur Mauk, whom he had married at Villisca that day. He had
gone to Villisca for a little visit, but that was nothing
unusual, so Tabor people were not generally suspicious. They are
living for the present in the C.G. Mauk home on Center street,
Mr. and Mrs. U. G. Mauk being gone for the summer. Arthur is the
oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. U. G. Mauk, and is a young man worthy
in every way of the bride he has chosen who was Miss Ruby
Ireland, daughter of Superintendent and Mrs. Ireland, now of
Villisca, but soon to be of Tabor, for Mr. Ireland has charge of
the Tabor public schools the coming year. Mrs. Mauk has spent
several years teaching in Tabor where she is a general favorite,.
Their many friends here offer their hearty congratulations.
-Elwin Jones and family of Wayne, Nebraska, drove down from
Councill Bluffs July 14 and stayed over night with his father,
Freeman Jones. They had been in Council Bluffs with their son
Arno, who was in a hospital undergoing an operation preparatory
to joining his company.....
-Mrs. S. J. McMonagle of Sedalia, Missouri, and Mrs. George Brewer of Enid, Oklahoma, who were called here by the death of their mother, Mrs. L. D. McClintock, have returned to their homes.....
-Ralph Williams, who has been working in Council Bluffs, came home July 11 to take his brother Harle's place in the Williams drug store for a time while Harle is serving Uncle Sam....
-Miss Pearl Gottsche, a former high school
teacher in Tabor, was married July 10 to Harvey S. Barnes of
Manson, Iowa. The marriage took place at Grundy Center, Iowa.
