ANDERSON A BUSY TOWN
While in Anderson last Saturday we were surprised at the
magnitude of the business carried on there. Hutchison &
Chambers have a large stock of general merchandise and are doing
a large. business. Their stock is up to date and they handle
reliable goods, and they believe in making known that they are
there for business by advertising. Hutchison Bros. have a large
hardware and implement stock and deal in live stock and grain in
addition to their store. It is reported that these firms at
Anderson are doing as much business as any like firms in the
county and what one can observe there most any day in the week
will bear out the report. This firm also believes in judicious
advertising and by making known their business have built up a
fine patronage. Their stock is carefully selected and they handle
only the best goods on the market. The new bank, in charge of Mr.
Fichter is enjoying a nice patronage and is a much appreciated
convenience and will undoubtedly grow to be one of the largest
and soundest banking institutions in the county. Anderson is
certainly booming and becoming noted as a trading center.
FALL HEIR TO REAL ESTATE
Tabor Iowa, Oct. 1st.--Several Tabor families have recently
fallen heir to real estate interests in other states. The
children of Mrs. Mary Starrett will soon receive their
distributive shares of a valuable residence property centrally
located in the city of Monmonth,Ill., that belongs to their
father's sister, the late Mrs. Mary Hamilton, who died intestate.
The surviving heirs and next of kin are the children of George
Starrett of Brooklyn, N.Y., those of Daniel Starrett of Lenora,
Kan., and Mrs. Mary Starrett's five children-- George Starrett of
Omaha, Mrs. Edith Starrett Hunter, Will, Harry and Fred Starrett,
all of Tabor. The Hamilton estate is being settled in the present
term of the probate court at Monmouth and a decree for the sale
of property and distribution of proceeds will soon issue.
The Hopkins heirs may receive their share of valuable city realty
in Wheeling, W. Va. At an early day, a Richard Simms, an uncle of
the late Richard Simms Hopkins, of Tabor, donated a tract of land
at Wheeling to be used as a cemetery, but as the city grew it was
changed into a public park, contrary to the design of the donor.
Suit has been instituted and if finally successful, as there is
good reason to believe it will be, the land in the heart of the
city will revert to the heirs. The Tabor heirs are Mrs.Hopkins,
widow of R. S. Hopkins, and her two daughters, Mrs. J. C.
Stevenson and Miss Bessie Hopkins.
