DEATH OF THOMAS WEIDNER
The subject of this sketch was born in Clark county, Indiana, on
September 25, l823, and had attained the ripe age of 76 years, 6
months and 2 days. He was married in Fremont county at about the
age of 30 years. To this union there were three children, two of
whom are still living, one in Oklahoma and the other in Chicago.
His wife died in 1851. He moved to Iowa sometime in the '40's and
married the second wife in Marion county, Iowa. From this place
he removed to Bloomington, Illinois, where he remained to the
breaking out of the civil war when he enlisted in the Union
service in 1862, as a private, serving till 1865 when, having
been promoted to the post of sergeant, he was mustered out at
that time in New Orleans. He then removed to Montgomery county,
Indiana, remaining there about three years when he removed to
Iowa where he lived about 10 years. He afterwards traveled in
Kansas for sometime, thence to Chicago where he lived a short
time, afterwards removing to St. Joseph and for the last five
years had made his home with a son in Denver, Colorado, where he
died on March 27th, 1900.
The second family of children numbered seven, five of whom still
live, two in Chicago, one in St. Joseph, one in Denver and one in
Sidney, Iowa. Both himself and wife joined the Christian church
in early life maintaining this relation till death. The funeral
was held at the home of his daughter Mrs. Nathaniel Jordan on
Saturday, March 31st, at 2 o'clock p.m., the exercises conducted
by Rev. Geo. C. Hicks. Interment was made in the Sidney cemetery.
