OBITUARY
Died, on Thursday, August 24th, at 518 Perry Street, Sioux City, Iowa, Mrs. Ida M. Reel.
Ida May Hoop was born near Sidney, October 28, 1867. Left an orphan at an early age, she spent the greater part of her girlhood days in the home of Dr. J. J. Young, of Thurman. She graduated from the Thurman schools, the valedictorian of the class of 1887. Shortly afterward she was married to John W. Reel. After residing in Thurman three years, they removed to Omaha, and later to Sioux City. Six children were born to them, of whom three boys and two girls are left to mourn her loss. About six months ago, she had a severe attack of la grippe. This settled on her lungs, which were never very strong, and symptoms of consumption appeared. For a time her strong will and her belief that she would be spared to care for her little ones, beat back the dread invader and health seemed to slowly return, but other complications setting in, the tide turned. It was then she determined to try the dry climate of the mountains, but despite of loving care and the best medical skill, she grew weaker and was unable to stand the trip. On Thursday last God sent his messenger to relieve the patient sufferer and at 11:30 the tired eyes closed, the lines of the worn face relaxed into a peaceful smile, and the pure soul returned to its maker. Mrs. Reel had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church from childhood, being a member of the first M. E. church, of Sioux City, at the time of her death. She was a noble christian woman, a true friend and a devoted mother. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Pittenger, at 2 p.m., Saturday, after which the remains were laid to rest in the beautiful Logan Park cemetery.
