Mrs. Charlotte Ricketts died at the home of her son, Platt
Ricketts, at 1:30 p.m., April 28th of Chronic Bronchitis. She was
born Jan. 7, 1816. Was a teacher in Kentucky in 1843 at the time
of her marriage to R. R. Ricketts, a citizen of that state. They
moved to Iowa about the year 1856. His death occurred in 1877
at the age of 75. They buried a son eleven years of age in 1857
and a daughter twelve years of age in 1860. Two sons and two
daughters with families survive the mother and hold her memory
precious on account of her many Christian virtues. The burial
took place Monday April 30th. Services were conducted at the home
of Platt Ricketts by Dr. R. R. Hanley whose acquaintance with the
family began with his settlement in Iowa in 1856. Mrs. R's
daughter, Mrs., Lizzie Lehman of Columbus, Neb., and Mrs. Elvira
Platt, a sister from Tabor, were providentially present and
precious gospel hymns were sung at the house and grave by friends
from Percival churches. The Bible texts for the sermon are found
in Zachariah 13:9 and 14:6-7.
