NEW FERRY
The subject of granting a license for another Ferry Boat to ply
across the river at Nebraska City, has been before the citizens
of our county for some weeks past, and last Monday it was brought
before Judge Hedges for a hearing. The principal ground upon
which the application was based was THE INCAPACITY OF THE PRESENT
BOAT TO ACCOMMODATE THE TRAVELING PUBLIC. The subject was
thoroughly canvassed on both sides, and after giving the subject
a patient hearing, the Judge was convinced that the interests of
Fremont County demanded another boat, and accordingly granted Mr.
Beebout license to run another. The rates of ferryage have been
materially reduced, so that a man having any kind of produce to
sell, and wishing to take it to Nebraska City, can do so without
consuming the profits in ferryage. The rates of the new boat, as
regulated by Judge Hedges, cannot exceed 50 cents for a wagon
with two horses, mules or oxen, and not more than 25 cents extra
for each additional team.
