Pupils and their teacher, Miss Grace Obrecht, in the rural school
of district No. 2 in Wisner township, had a real scare during the
electrical storm on Wednesday afternoon when a flash of lightning
went down the stovepipe, into the stove, and jumped from the
stove door into the coal bucket nearby where it was grounded.
Miss Edna Luce, principal of Hampton high school, will be in
Cedar Falls tomorrow to attend a conference of high school normal
training critics at Iowa State Teachers College.

Mrs. Clarence M. Wood of Sheffield, delegate from Candlestick
Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, of Hampton, to the
national convention of the organization at Washington, D.C., was
honored by Mrs. Herbert Hoover, first lady of the land, by being
selected to act on the reception committee at the White House
last Thursday, when a reception was held there for the delegates
to the convention.
Miss Dorothy Whitehead and Miss Arla Collis contributed violin
solos at a musical recital given Tuesday evening by Miss Ruth
Swinger, at the Hotel Hanford, in Mason City.
Fred F. Hughart, one of Hampton's jewelry merchants, accompanied
by B.M. Clawson, of this city and R.H. Clawson, of Iowa Falls,
has been in Cedar Falls this week attending the annual convention
of the Iowa Retail Jewelers Association.
Announcement was made last week of the marriage at Mason City on
Thursday, April [either 11th or 17th], of Miss Mabel Mickley and
John G. Menefee, both of whom reside north of Hampton. The
ceremony was read at the home of the officiating Minister, Rev.
W.L. Biddle, pastor of the Congregational church.
