-B.B. Walrath was in Hawkeye Monday.
-Minor Harwood and the Misses Harriet Flower and Alta Rawson were
in Des Moines this week.
-Mr. J.H. Tracy, of Fayette, was a guest in the home of his
brother-in-law, Mr. W.H. Clements Tuesday.
-Prairie Grove W.C.Y.N. will meet with Mrs. Effie Flower,
Thursday, October 12, at two o'clock in the afternoon.
-T.J. Ainsworth and wife left Monday evening for Roscow, Ill.,
accompanied by Mrs. Peterman, to visit relatives.
-Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Roe left Tuesday for Marcus, Cherokee county
to visit a brother. They expect to be absent at least two weeks.
-Mrs. Johnson, of Waucoma (nee Cunningham) passed
through Arlington Tuesday evening on her way to visit several
days in Cedar Rapids.

Hereafter at all meetings of the fire department the fire bell
will be taped three times three. A.D. Miller, Chief
-Judge Henry Palmer held court yesterday.
-J.H. Pressnall spent Sunday in Arlington.
-Mrs. Grant Ainsworth spent Sunday at Greeley.
-Miss Jean Clements left last evening for Nashville, Kansas to
spend the winter. Her brother Walter, besides other relatives are
located there.
-Eve Richard's hauled some elegant potatoes to town this week.
-J.W. Neland is quite low with lung fever - P.S. Mr. Neeland died
last night and the body was shipped today to Monticello for
burial.
Horsemen, Attention
H.E. Light will be at Phillip & Hyde's livery barn Friday
Oct. 20 for the purpose of buying heavy horses and drivers. The
highest market prices will be paid. Bring your horses on that
date.
-Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Wandell are the parents of a little girl
baby that arrived at their home last Sunday. The News
offers its congratulations.
-Mr. and Mrs. Ed Smith are the happy parents of a new baby.
Congratulations.
-Mrs. A.D. White will remove her clothes-cleaning and dye works
soon to the residence of Mr. W.H. Clements. Patrons will please
remember this.
-Mr. Sanders, the organ man has been ailing for several days and
Tuesday evening on advice of Dr. Ayer he went home to be cared
for by his mother.
-Miss Myra Nace is employed in Mrs. Thompson's millinery store.
-Mr. and Mrs. John Bassett from Putnam township were in town this
morning.
The home Charley Rollison was living in burned up yesterday, the
family escaping with very little except their clothing. How the
fire originated is not known.
Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Wiltsie left yesterday evening for Manchester,
from there they go to Cedar Rapids carnival and from there to
visit their son at Hopkinton and from there to attend the Omaha
Exposition.
Mrs. Melia A. Kidder, residing between Arlington and Strawberry
Point, aged 84, died Tuesday afternoon of old age. The funeral
will be held at Strawberry Point today. W.H. Gleim has charge of
the funeral.
Christian Gundlach died last Monday, aged over 80 years. He was
an old resident of Scott township where he was well and favorably
known and was highly respected by all. We are sorry we have no
obituary.
Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Morley left for Chicago Tuesday evening to
visit their relatives. From this place they will go to
Willmington, Ill., to attend Mr. Morley's regimental union. It is
calculated the trip will last a week or ten days.
Mr. and Mrs. M.F. Little of Mt. Hope, Kansas expect to arrive in
Oelwein Thursday morning where they will visit in the home of his
brother Frank Little a few days, they will then visit her
daughter and other relatives in Fayette and Arlington.

4: Total number enrolled, 26; average daily attendance, 20.
Those neither absent nor tardy were Andrew Johnson, Giles Hicks,
Dean Richards, Arthur Brooks, Ivis Hicks, Metta Hicks, Dick
Wiggins, Hazel Brooks & L. Bess Robbins.
Those absent on account of sickness were Edith Northrop, Eva
Johnson, Lucile Crawford, Walter Johnson, Olla Northrop, John
Brooks and Elsie Starr.
