A meeting was held last Friday evening to organize the Oelwein
high school baseball nine for the season of 1899. The following
officers were chosen: Fred Jamison, manager; Harry Powers,
assistant manager; and W. H. Knapp, captain. The team played
eight games last year, winning five.
Constable Powers went to Hazleton Monday evening where he
captured two men named George and William Delair, accused of
obtaining money under false pretenses of Robert Ellis, who is
working on the Charles Brown farm.
The largest single contract of its kind ever let in Oelwein was
made last week by Hurd, Shaw and Odell for laying 30,000 feet of
sidewalk and planting 700 trees on the Grandview addition.
