Dubuqueland Students to Receive Diplomas
Iowa State College has announced 673 students as candidates for diplomas or certificates at the 69th annual June commencement exercises in State gymnasium Monday morning. The graduating class is the largest in the college's history. Among those who are candidates for degrees are the following students, listed by counties:

Hunter's Body Reaches Home
Independence, Ia. - The body of Frank Klumpar, Sr., 52, retired Independence grocery and meat dealer, whose body was found early this week in the Lake of the Woods near Nestor Falls, Ontario, Canada, where he was drowned last Oct. 2, while on a big game hunting trip, arrived here Saturday morning. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at St. John's Catholic Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Charles Miller, pastor. Burial will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery at Cedar Rapids.

Mr. Klumpar was born in Rychmburg, Bohemia, on Nov. 21, 1887 and he came to this country in 1905, first locating in Cedar Rapids where he learned the butcher's trade. He came to Independence some time later where he conducted a meat and grocery store for many years. He was married to Annastazie Straka in 1911. She preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 1927. He retired some years ago.

Surviving are a son, Frank, Jr., and a daughter, Mrs. Georgie Straw, both of Independence; three brothers, Emil of Cedar Rapids; Stepan of Rychmburg, Bohemia; and Godfrey in Vienna; and a sister, Emma Klumpar, also of Rychmburg.

Noonan-McAndrew - Mr. and Mrs. J.L. McAndrew of Peosta, Ia., announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Elizabeth, to Mr. Donald P. Noonan of Dubuque, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Noonan of Bernard, Ia. The wedding will take place Tuesday, June 25, at the Hold Family Church, New Melleray.

Buckler-Corzine - Mr. and Mrs. C.S. Corzine, announce the approaching marriage of their second eldest daughter, Frances, to Mr. Albert Buckler of Rockford, Ill., only son of Mrs. Bernard Lambert of Dubuque. The wedding will take pace late this month.

Nesler-Christoffersen - Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Christoffersen, announce the engagement of their younger duahger Opal Irene, to Dr. William M. Nesler. The wedding will take place in July.

Nolan-Wieser - Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Wieser, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their elder daughter, Mary Margaret, to Mr. Harold Franis Nolan, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nolan of Dubuque. The wedding will take place at the Holy Ghost Church at 8 o'clock Friday morning, June 25.

Wolff-Hoskins - Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hoskins, Dubuque, announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Janet, to Mr. Charles Wolff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Art Wolff of Dubuque. The wedding will take place at 7 o'clock, Thursday monrning, June 27 at St. Patrick's Church.

Oakley-Miller - Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Miller of Elkader, Ia. announcee the engagement of their eldest daughter, Theresa, to Mr. Walter Oakley, of Dubuque. The wedding will take place June 22, at Elkader.

Stover-Lange - Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Lange of Dubuque, announce the engagement of their daughter, Lois, to Mr. Dwight Stover, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Stover, of Sibley, Ia.

Semper-Atkinson - Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Atkinson, 2828 Pinard St., announce the forthcoming marriage of their only daughter, to Mr. Louis Semper, son of Mrs. Mae Semper of Chicago. The wedding will take place Saturday, Aug. 3, at the [illegible] Congregational Church in Dubuque.

Kraai-Van Beek - Dr. and Mrs. Peter Van Beek of Maquoketa, Ia., have announced the approaching marriage of their daughter, Edith, to Mr. Ernest Kraai of Borculo, Mich. The wedding will take place Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Kraai of Borculo. Miss Van Beek attended school at [illegible], Mich. and has been teaching in that state.

Kretz-Gierens - Mr. and Mrs. William Gierens, 916 Dodge St., announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Virginia Cleo, to Mr. Joe Kretz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kretz, Sr., Dubuque. The wedding will take place this month.

Meinert-Miller - Mr. and Mrs. John Miller, 195 South Hill St., announce the engagement of their youngest daughter, Genevieve to Mr. Lee Meinert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Meinert of Dakota, Ill. The wedding will take place at St. Columbkille's Church, Monday, July 8.

Wheeler-Burdt - Mr. and Mrs. Herman Burdt, Sr., 2255 Washington St., announce the forthcoming marriage of their youngest daughter, Ethelinda Marie, to Mr. Walter H. Wheeler, of Baltimore, Md., son of Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Wheeler, of Dubuque. The wedding will take place in the Cathedral at Baltimore, Wednesday, August 7.

Spautz-Weber - Announcement has been made of the approaching marriage of Miss Kathryn Weber, daughter of Mrs. Kathryn Weber, 1906 Pierce St., to Mr. Bernard Spautz, 1430 Jackson St., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Spautz of Dubuque. The wedding will take place at 7 o'clock Tuesday morning, June 25, at St. Mary's Church.

Stewart-Klassen - Homer J. Stewart, former Dubuque boy, will be married to Miss Freida Klassen of Pasadena, Calif., June 15, according to word received here by his father, Mr. E.A. Stewart. On Friday, the younger Stewart received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Aeronautical Engineering at the annual convocation exercises at the California Institute of Technology. He graduated from Dubuque High School with the class of 1932.

New Hampton, Ia. - Mrs. R.P. Blankenhelm was elected president of the Legion Auxiliary for the coming year. Other officers are: Mrs. V.J. Mangan and Mrs. J.M. Page, vice-presidents; Mrs. Charles Kime, treasurer; Mrs. A.A. Hughes, secretary; Mrs. George C. Murray, musician; Mrs. Clark Barteau, chaplain; Mrs. Ray R. Monona, Ia. - The Luther League of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church will present the play "A Stranger Passes" in the high school auditorium here Sunday. The cast includes: Gene Ferguson, Helene Hoth, Lyle Voelzke, Imogene Seeland, Dorothy Pape, Dorlene Aulerich, Bob Garms, Merwyn Pape, Aloha and Lloyd Drahn, and Starr Baade.

West Union, Ia. - Mrs. L.G. Meyer was elected president of the Legion Auxiliary for the coming year. Other officers are: Mrs. Leon Layton, vice-president; Mrs. Alfred Eastman, secretary; Mrs. Jim Niles, treasurer; Mrs. Ivan Medberry, chaplain; Mrs. Warren Joycee, sergeant-at-arms; Mrs. L.E. Stanley, Ia. - New officers of the Methodist Ladies Aid Society for the coming year are: president, mrs. Leslie Witwer; vice-president, Mrs. Dale Watson; secretary, Mrs. Carl Follmer; and treasurer, Mrs. E.A Clark.

Winthrop, Ia. - Julius Gates, retired farmer, who recently had his leg amputated at St. Luke's Hospital at Cedar Rapids, was reported Saturday to be showing improvement. Last March one of his toes was frost bitten and infection developed, finally gangrene setting in.

Hawkeye, Ia.
- Mrs. Roger Christy and daughter, Kay, of Paducah, Ky., are here visiting her father, D.J. Knox.
-Clarence Boess of Big Sandy, Mont., is spending the summer here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Boess.
-Eugene Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Jones, a member of the U.S. Navy, has departed for San Diego, Calif. folowing a visit here with his parents. He will be stationed on the U.S. Yorkstown, an aircraft carrrier, at Hawaii.

Volga City, Ia. - L.A. Candee was appointed town clerk here, succeeding Ted H. Leete, who resigned and moved to Cedar Falls to make his future home.

Manchester, Ia.
-The formal opening of the new $8,000 outdoor dance hall and roller skating rink at Sunset Beach, a summer resort a mile north of here on Highway 13, will be held Thursday evening, it was announced by D.J. Meggenburg of Manchester, owner of the hall. The building is known as "Beachland." A grand march will be feature, with Mayor and Mrs. Shannon B. charlton leading the dancers. The dance floor measures 100 by 66 feet.
-A new mattress factory has been opened here, a branch of the Lansing, Ill., Mattress Factory. Roy Van Kampen is the local manager.

Earlville, Ia. - Carol Mae Parkin, eight-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Parkin, is suffering from injuries received when she was knocked down and bitten by the family dog.

Winthrop, Ia. - Born to Mr. and Mrs. Dean Sheeley, a son, June 3.

Independence, Ia. - At the annual meeting of directors of the Wapsie Valley Cow Test Association here, new officers elected were: Matt Kremer, president; Arthur Satterlee, vice-president; and J.F. Kelleher, secretary-treasurer. Directors elected: Roy Crawford of Jesup, and Orville Thom of Winthrop.

Riceville, Ia. - The Jenkins Township 4-H Club elected the following officers for the coming year: president, Helen Button; vice-president, Arlene Wolff; secretary, Anna Minnis; treasurer, Arlene Button; historian and photographer, Virginia Pringry; leader, Ione Mayer.

Postville, Ia. - The local chapter of the Future Farmers of America elected officers for the coming year as follows: Harlan Chamberlain, president; Kenneth Looney, vice-president; Eugene Waters, secretary; Milton Olson, treasurer; and Donald Kugel, reporter.

New Hampton, Ia. - A new girls 4-H club has been formed in Chickasaw County with Mrs. J.W. Sheridan as leader. Officers are: Regina Nulty, president; Jeanne Shekleton, vice-president; Yvonne Wurtzer, secretary; Lucille Cole, treasurer; Ellen Sheridan, historian; Margaret Mary Goss, reporter.

Ft. Dodge, Ia - Russell Sibrel, 14, Fort Dodge Junior High School student, was dead Saturday after being struck in the heart by an accidentally fired bullet. The accident occurred at the home of a friend, Paul Bargar, 14. Sibrel was examining a 22-calibre rifle when it fell to the floor and discharged.
