-Social at Rev. Brasted's tonight. Refreshments!
-O. Ruckwheat marketed a fine bunch of porkers this week.
-Mills Brothers have bought Kjelson's skating rink and fixtures
at Okoboji.
-A.M. Johnson has increased the capacity of his dry goods room.
-Dr. Z.E. Funk's patrons and friends will now find his office in
the new bank building. He has elegant quarters.
-Leslie Lemon threshed 18 acres of barley the other day that
yielded plump 38 bushels per acre. His wheat went 18 bushels.
-O.R. Ellis, of Diamond Lake, was so unfortunate as to lose two
large hogs that died of overheat while on the way to market in
Spirit Lake Wednesday morning.
-Judgement has been rendered against Buena Vista county on claim
of this county for expenses incurred in connection with the
sickness and death of Suckow, a Buena Vista county pauper who
died here about two years since. The amount is $134.
-G.W. Baxter made a business trip to Sheldon this week.
-Samuel Keiser is entertaining a brother from eastern Iowa this
week.
-Miss Emma Baily has returned to her home in Clayton county, much
to the regret of our young people.
-Mrs. Reed, of Decorah, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Geo.
Eastwood, this week.
-A.R. Begun, of Cedar Falls, is visiting his brother, Attorney
Begun of this place.
-T.H. Kirk and wife are again residents of Spirit Lake. Tommy has
an engagement at his brother's hardware store.
-Mrs. Lacy, of Traer, Iowa, mother-in-law of W.T. Kendall, master
of the steamer "Okoboji" accompanied by her mother,
were enjoying the lake breezes a few days last week.
-Mrs. Burgess, sister of Mrs. James Robb, and her daughters, Mrs.
Jamieson and Miss Colinda Burgess, came out from Allamakee county
last week to see their friends here. Mrs. Jamieson was formerly
known here as Miss Linnie Burgess, and she is very warmly
esteemed by many of our older settlers.
Born - September 3d, 1884, in Spirit Lake, a son
to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Coyle.
Lake Park news
-H.E. Truesdell is convalescent.
-H.L. Lampson was down from Worthington visiting the "folks
at home" over Sunday.
-E.D. thomas returned from Minnesota Saturday, having bought
about sixty head of cattle while there.
-P.B. Thomas has traded his farm near Hartley for property in
Spirit Lake.
-Mr. Estabrook moved to his farm in ocheydan, osceola county,
last week, where he expects to make his home in the future. He is
a thorough farmer and a good neighbor, and will be a credit to
any place where he lives.
-Miss Maggie Robertson, who has been confined to the house for
about a year, was visiting around town last week.
-S.A. Colburn will soon move to Osceola county, where he has
lately taken a homestead, while the boys will take care of the
stock left here.
-Two of A.D. McElbinney's brothers from Tama county are here
looking over the country with a view of purchasing a section of
land which they will fence for a pasture. Thursday, he shipped
from this place nine car-loads of very fine steers, which he has
been herding north of town during the season. Jimmy Paul,
McElbinney's faithful herder will accompany him to Tama county,
but will return in a few days.
