HERMAN MELCHER DIES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS. LIVED 67 YEARS IN BURLINGTON, DIES IN MERCY HOSPITAL WEDNESDAY.
Herman Melcher died at the Mercy hospital shortly after Wednesday noon after an illness of only a few days. His condition first became serious Tuesday, when he was taken to the hospital from his home, 1125 Osborn street. Due to his advanced age and weakened condition he was unable to rally and died Wednesday.

He was probably the oldest butcher in Burlington and has lived here for sixty seven years. He was born in Germany September 14, 1851 and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Melcher. He came to America and to Burlington with his parents when he was three years old. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic church. Besides his wife he leaves one son, George Melcher of Burlington; one daughter Mrs. Harvey Haskell of La Grange, Ill; and one grandson. The funeral will leave the home at 1125 Osborn street Saturday morning at 8:30 o'clock and services will be held at St. Patrick's church at 9:00 o'clock. The burial will be made in Aspen Grove cemetery. Friends are invited to the services.
