Clarence A. Osborne was born at Correctionville, Iowa
October 27 1883, and
passed away at his home in Mediapolis, Iowa February 17, 1920, at the age of
36 years, 3 months, and 20 days.
On Monday morning of last week he did not go to the
school room on account
of his wife being sick with influenza, and after a few days of nursing she
and the children he was taken sick with the same disease. Last Saturday he
was some better and was up a part of the day. Sunday he became worse,
pneumonia having developed, and from that time he gradually failed until he
passed away.
When four years of age he moved to Sioux City, Iowa and
later lived at
Randolph, Nebr., He came back to Sioux city, where he spent several years in
acquiring his education.
Teaching was his chosen profession and he proved his
worth in the sixteen
years he spent in teaching, beginning in a rural school in Buchanan County.
Later he taught at Millersburg, Tama, Sheldon and Hubbard. Last year he
came here and started in as superintendent when the work of the school
year
began and had only been here about six months when he was called from his
earthly work.
Mr. Osborne was well liked and pupils, fellow teachers,
and patrons fo the
school held him in high esteem and were also greatly benefited by his
counsel and fellowship both in and without the school room and a great have
of sadness spread over the entire community when it became known that he had
passed away.
Mr. Osborne was united in marriage with Miss Hazel
Baird at Waterloo, Iowa
August 18, 1908. Three children were born to them and together with his
wife are burdened with grief in this sad hour.
Mr. Osborne identified himself with the Presbyterian
church in Buchanan
County in his young manhood. He was not sectarian in his religious life,
but worked with any evangelical church when no opportunity was provided of
working with the people of his preference. He became a member of the
Presbyterian Church in Mediapolis on January 11, 1920.
Deceased leaves to mourn his going his wife and three
children: Elaine aged
10 years, Gweniviere, approaching 6 years, and Robert almost 2 years.
Besides these his father survives him and lives in Littleton, Colorado, and
four sisters and two brothers, as follows: Mrs. Mary Fluckey of Denver,
Colorado; Mrs. Rose Davenbaugh of Waterloo, Iowa; George W. Osborne of
Sigourney, Iowa; Mrs. Nellie Huges of Denver, Colorado; and Ralph Osborne of
Littleton, Colorado.
A Memorial service was held at the school house
Wednesday evening.
The remains were taken to Millersburg, Iowa for interment, the funeral party
leaving her on the late train going north on Wednesday night.
