The democrats of the third district are doing nobly, and at the
present progress, if the canvass lasts long enough, Tom Updegraff
will have so big a majority that all other votes will be classed
scattering.  The latest results of the democratic manipulation is
that the 'Nord Iowa Herold', a German democratic paper of Clayton
county, has run up Mr. Updefraff's name on its congressional ticket.
They have exerted themselves especially to draw away the German
republicans from the support of Mr. Updegraff, but the boomerang has
returned and administratered a resoundeing whack on their own noddles.

The New Sharon 'Star' pertinently says: "When in the one breath Brick
Pomeroy says, 'Wipe out the entire national debt,' and in the next
one says, 'Pay it in greenbacks, pay it in absolute money,' he knows
the two things are identical.  He is an open avowed repudiationist,
and knows that greenback payment of the bonds in repudiation.
therefore he urges it."

The greenbackers of Marion county have gone back on McCormack, who
made the motion which resulted in no nomination in the sixth
congressional district.  They were to vote the democratic county
ticket, but after getting all the money they could from Mc., they
nominated a county ticket.  And now Mc. feels like getting up on his
hind legs and howling.
