Burlington Hawk Eye; Burlington , Des Moines , Iowa ; May 9, 1878  

A farmer named Christian Waltze, living near Farmington , had his skull fractured, on Saturday morning, by a blow with an ax in the hands of a neighbor, named John Thierer, receiving a probably fatal wound.  

Dangerous Assault.

            Farmington , May 6, 1878.- An old quarrel between John Tyes and Christian Woeltze resulted in a meeting on Friday last, the latter receiving a blow from ax in the hands of the former, which bids fair to prove fatal. Tyer had an examination to-day before Justices Coulter and Benson, at Boyer Station, and was held to bail in $1,000. G.W. Ringer, of Farmington , for the state, and M. Beaman, of Keosauqua, for the defense.
