Henry C. Burhans.
Died Sunday, the 10th, inst, in this city, in the ninetieth year of
his age,  Henry C. Burhans.  The funeral will take place Tuesday, the

Henry C. Buhrans * was born in Ulster county, New York, May 18th,
1788, on a farm near the foot of the Catskill mountains.  After the
war of 1812 his residence was in Potter's Hollow, Albany county, New
York, for many years.  There were born to him three sons and one
daughter by his first marriage.  His wife and only daughter dying, he
subsequently married the sister of ex-Governor Bouck, of Schoharie,
New York, by whom he had three sons who live in New York and
Brooklyn.  He has lived in Burlington, Iowa with his youngest son by
his first wife, for many years, and had good health until within the
past two years.  He was a great reader and kept himself closely
informed upon current news, and retained his vigor of mind to the
last.  As an instance of his physical vigor, we may say that he
never  used glasses to read even the finest print, to the end of his
days.

The funeral services of James L. Coolbaugh were held Friday morning
at the residence of Hon. A.C. Dodge in this city.  Rev. Dr. Salter
conducted the services both at the house and at the grave in Aspen
Grove cemetery, where the body was lain at rest.

--
A little child, son of Mr. R. Loper, near Kinston, was found dead on
the evening of the 5th inst. lying near the wood pile in such a
position as to indicate that its death was caused by its attempting
to climb upon the wood pile and pulling a log down upon itself.  It
was missed early in the evening and search was at once instituted,
but it was not found until eight o'clock, as above stated.  It was
scarcely three years old and its loss is deeply felt by its bereaved
parents.
