THE FLINT HILLS- This new and commodious Steam Ferry Boat under
the command of Capt. FRENCH, arrived at our landing one day last
week. Unlike other ferry boats, she is in all her appointments a
regular built steamboat, and is intended, we presume, in low
water, to ply between this place and the foot of the lower
rapids. Her performances thus far have been very satisfactory;
her speed averaging that of most of the Upper Mississippi boats.
With such facilities as she offers to travelers and emigrants and
inducement is offered for speedily crossing the Mississippi at
Burlington which cannot be found at any other point above St.
Louis. Since her arrival, she has been crowded with emigrants who
are on their way to California. Her present name is the old one
of Shockoquon, anglicised, which should have been the sobriquet
of Burlington. She has a double engine, two boilers and a Doctor.
