Mary Ellen Adams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Harvey Adams, was born in Ohio June 25, 1858, and departed this life December 17, 1928 at the age of 70 years, 5 months, and 22 days at the home of her son Cecil Hougham at Boonesville. She was united in marriage to Benjamin Franklin Hougham on December 17, 1882, who preceeded her in death on November 1, 1919. To this union was born six children of which five still survive: Charles Harvey, who departed this life at the age of 8 years; Clarence T. of Redfield Iowa; T. Cecil of Boonesville, Gerry M. of Fort Des Moines; Jerry J. of Cranston Iowa, Cora Mae Stapes of Adel. She also leaves three sisters, and four brothers; sixteen grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. She moved from Ohio to Missouri when a girl and from there the family moved to Marion County Iowa until sometime after her marriage, living in Marion and Polk counties. With her husband and family moving to Dallas County and spending their life there together. Since her husbands death she has made her home with the children. She was converted in 1892 and with her husband became a member of the M.E. Church at Altoona and after moving to Dallas County she transferred her membership to the Panther Creek U.B. Church and has been a member since that time. She was a patient sufferer and expressed her willingness to go and be with those of her loved ones that God had called before. Her desire in life was to be a good mother and neighbor.
