Benjamin Franklin Hougham was born June 19th 1853 at Des Moines IA and departed this life at his home, 9 miles southwest of Adel IA, Nov. 1, 1919 at the age of 66 years, 4 months, 12 days. He was united in marriage with Mary Ellen Adams Dec 17, 1882 in Marion County IA. To this union 6 children were born: Cecil, Clarence, Gerry, Zerry, Mrs. Mae Stapes, Charles Harvey. All of these survive him excepting Charles Harvey who died at age 7 years. He is also survived by his wife, 6 grandchildren, 2 sisters, Mrs. Mary Adams of Swan IA and Mrs. Sarah Johnson of Pleasantville IA, Henry and Nelson both of Des Moines. About 26 years ago he was converted to the Christian faith and life at Altoona IA, and united with the M.E. Church, but after locating on the present farm he transferred his membership to the U.B. Church of which he has been a constant member ever since. He located in Dallas County in the fall of 1896. His sickness covered 2 years, and in all of this affliction he was a patient sufferer until relieved by death on Saturday forenoon, Nov. 1, 1919.
