Jacob Hougham was born in Henry County Indiana October 19, 1821. Was married to Mary E. Williamson Sept. 4, 1859, moved to Guthrie County same year and from there to Dallas County in 1865, to the home where he spent the balance of his life. Eleven children were born to him, of whom 8 are now living, three having preceded him in death. His wife died Sept. 10, 1874. Mr. Hougham was stricken with paralysis in Jan. 1889, since which time he has been confined to his bed. On the 1st ___ producing complete helplessness and insensibility, yet life remained until the 5th day when the silver cord was loosened, and the wheel at the sistern ceased to move, only 12 days before his three score and ten years had terminated. A very large concourse of people gathered at their last tribute of respect to him and in sympathy of those who remain. Thus he was laid beside his wife in the cemetery near his house where the funeral services were held and conducted by Rev. George Wright of Adel.
