Clinton, Clinton County, Iowa
May 11, 1893
Saturday, William Wenzel, of Elk River, brought down 5 young
wolves, and John A. Smith of Orange, recently brought in 6, for
which $2 a piece were paid. During April just past the sum of
$135 was paid out for wolf scalps, as against $143 total for the
two years 1891 and 1892. Wolves appear to be increasing in
Clinton County. Perhaps its the effect of the climate and
other influences. One thing noticeable is that the scalps brought
in are about all young ones.
