Fire at Charles City College
The woman's dormitory of the Charles City college was burned to the ground Friday morning about 3 o'clock. All the occupants left the burning structure by means of a ladder placed at a second story window. As fast as the half dressed and badly frightened young ladies, ten in number, descended the ladder they were taken to the home of Rev. L.J. Brenner, adjoining the dormitory, where they spent the remainder of the night.
The loss on the building was almost complete, only a few of the girls belongings being saved. The loss is estimated at $10,000 with only $4,875 insurance.
It is thought the fire started from accumulated rubbish in the furnace room.
