During the storm Saturday night a two year old colt belonging to John Cooney, living northwest of town was killed by lightning and some of the features of the affair are most remarkable. The colt, when found, was lying in the middle of the pasture away from any fences or trees, one eye had been torn out and the track of the electricity was plainly visible along the animal's back and down to the hoofs. Under the animal was a large hole, which looked as if a bomb had exploded there and thirty feet in every direction, the sod was ripped
up in narrow strips as if cut out by some sharp instrument.-- Lawler Dispatch.

Last evening as Jas. Stanton and John Redman were returning from Ionia they met with an accident which resulted in a serious injury to the former. They met a team on the railroad crossing a short distance out of town and in turning out their buggy tipped over the road embankment and threw them both to the ground.
Mr. Redman escaped unhurt, but Mr. Stanton received several deep cuts on the head and this morning an examination showed that his collar bone was also broken. Drs. Feeney and Gardner are attending him and although he is quite sick from his injuries, no serious results are anticipated.-- New Hampton Courier.
