J.H. Lawson, horse trainer for J.G. Leary, met with a serious
accident yesterday; while trimming a pole with an ax, it glanced
and struck him on the knee, cutting a long, deep gash which
required eight stitches to keep it in place. Dr. McKone was
called and fixed him up as comfortable as possible but it will be
some time before he will walk again...
Sullivan, the tramp who tried to burglarize Goggin's jewelry
store last fall was sentenced to six years in the pen by Judge
Hobson last week. This seems pretty heavy punishment under the
circumstances...
Jacobs, the bigamist of Little Turkey, plead guilty of having
married another woman without his first wife's consent and will
put in three years at Anamosa for his carelessness. Sheriff
Sherwood passed through here yesterday with the culprits and they
are now safe behind the bars at the stone city...
Jno. Green got intoxicated last night and went home and abused
his wife, who was still confined to her bed since the birth of
her baby, he was brought before Squire Stimson this morning and
given 15 days on the stone pile at the county seat.-- Lawler

Rose Family Reunion at Lawrence, Kas.
Again the scattered members of the Rose family have met under the roof of
the old homestead. They came from far and near and brought their children with
them. They have had their reunion and returned to their several homes. While
here they renewed the days of their youth, walked the paths they used to tread,
rested in the shade of the trees where once they made play houses, and wandered
in the grove that is so beautiful and where they had spent hours of unalloyed
happiness. The sons went boating and fishing; the daughters indulged much in
reminiscences. All enjoyed themselves, if not with the zest of youth, yet more
soberly, and felt that it was good to meet again. The members who were present
numbered 23. These included five sons, four daughters, three sons-in-law, two da
ughters-in-law, eleven small grandchildren, one grandson and wife, one
granddaughter and husband, one granddaughter and son, father and mother. Little
Guy Fox was the only great grandchild present.
Mesdames A. Runyan and A. Fox of Nashua were present. Others came from
Oklahoma and different points in Kansas. And others were unable to be present.
