Death of John Hance
Died on Sunday night at his home near Ionia, John Hance of
pneumonia. His remains will be placed in the Cemetery at Bassett
today; The funeral services will be conducted by the masonic
lodge of Bassett. We have no further particulars, but we know
that Mr. Hance was an honest man and a good citizen and that all
his relatives and friends will mourn his untimely death; we
tender our sincere sympathy to all who suffer the loss of
husband, father and son.

Died, Hance In Chickasaw Township, February 5,
1888. John A. Hance in the 55 year of his life. Born Ohio, 1833
Came to Iowa 1855, returned to Illinois in 1861, enlisted in the
1rst Regiment of Illinois volunteers. During the campaign
culminating in the battle of Chickamunga, he was one of the
bodyguard of General Rosecrans. At the close of the war in 1865
he came to this county where he has since resided. Farmer, leaves
wife and 8 children, funeral in Ionia, Tuesday under Masonic and
GAR auspices.

John Hance died Sunday evening at 7:30, typhoid and pneumonia.
Sick 4 days. Rev. S.C. Britnell preaches. Funeral Services
Tuesday at 11:00 in M.E. Church. Vinni and Charlie both quite low
with the same disease.

Fire Destroys the House of Mrs. J.A. Hance.
Fire destroyed the house of Mrs. J.A. Hance. Vinnie who is
convalesing was carried to the barn and then to the house of a
neighbor Mr. Briggs.
