LOCAL PIONEER IS PNEUMONIA VICTIM AT WESTERN HOME
Henry Gillett, 83, pioneer resident of Cerro Gordo county and
Mason City, died at his winter home in Los Angeles, Calif.,
Wednesday evening following a few days illness, according to word
received late Wednesday night by his daughter, Mrs. George M.
Deyoe, who resides on a farm south of the city. The body will be
shipped to arrive here some time Sunday for burial Monday in
Elmwood cemetery, where his wife was laid to rest years ago.
Complete funeral arrangements have not been made. The GAR will
have charge.
Mr. Gillett was taken ill with pneumonia a few days ago and
Wednesday morning his condition was thought considerably
improved. He died suddenly Wednesday night after suffering a
relapse. The deceased man has been a resident of Cerro Gordo
county 53 years and has lived in Mason City 23 years, spending
his winters in California. Before retiring he was a farmer. A
member of the CH Huntley post, GAR, he served four years and a
half in the army during the Civil War as a private with Company
I, second Wisconsin Infantry. He was a member of the
Congregational church.
