Jeff C. Davis post G.A.R.
The Jeff C. Davis post had a successful meeting last week, at which time new officers were elected for the coming year. Haines Parker was chosen for commander, and Dan. Clark for senior vice commander. W.L. Culbertson, who has been quarter master for so many years, was chosen to the place again. The comrades say that they have made a new start and hope to make the coming year an active one in the post. There seems to be a general feeling that the organization should be revived, and there are plenty of good, active members to make it as good as the post ever has been. H. Parker, the comrades say, will push things.

Obituary
William Sears, one of the old residents of this place, died at his home in the second ward last Sunday morning at 7:30. The deceased was born in Mercer county, New Jersey, on the 10th of March, 1819; and was, therefore, over 80 years old. In 1873 he was married to Miss Lucy Spanklets, and a son who lives in Nebraska survives him. He had been a resident of Iowa for 27 years and for many years has lived in Carroll. For the last year or more his health has been very poor and most of the time he has been confined indoors. Rev. J.E. Groendyke preached the funeral sermon at the home of the deceased yesterday afternoon. The remains were interred in the Carroll cemetery.

Deputy Treasurer
County Treasurer Trowbridge has appointed his daughter Blanche as his deputy in the office. Miss Blanche is a member of the senior class of the high school and is one of the brightest members of her class, and will be equal to every duty imposed by the new position. We believe that her selection will give universal satisfaction.

Married
J.A. Daugherty and Miss Ada Hillman were joined in wedlock New Year's evening at the home of the bride's mother in the third ward, Rev. Chas. E. Bentley officiating. Only near relatives of the young people were present. Mr. Daugherty is the efficient assistant cashier of the First National bank of this city and in that capacity has shown himself faithful and efficient in every particular. During his years of residentce in Carroll he has won many friends and his sterling qualities commend him to everyone with whom he has come in contact. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. William Hillman and was reared from childhood in Carroll. She is a graduate of our high school and is a young lady of accomplishments and womanly graces. Mr. and Mrs. Daugherty will live at the Hillman homestead, and are already cosily quartered in their new relations. May joy be theirs.
