Butler County Marriage Licenses.
The following marriage licenses were issued in the office of c.L.
Schellenger, Clerk of the District Court of Butler county, Iowa,
during the month of April, 1930:
George Jacob Meyer, Allison, Iowa, 22 and Clara Diena Lubben,
Allison, Iowa, 19
Claud Richardson, shell Rock, Iowa, 43 and Maud Erma Adair, shell
Rock, Iowa, 41.
Dwight Eugene Davis, Aredale, 21 and Ethel Matilda Wendt, Dumont,
Iowa, 27.
Happenings of the Years to Refresh the Memory.
Ten Years Ago:
-Bert Berry came up from Traer, Saturday night, to help his
family in getting packed up and moved to their new home.
-Dr. Groom has thomas and Turner fixing up the interior of his
residence in fine style.
-The sudden death of Ex-sheriff Frank Hill at Allison last
Wednesday evening is much regretted by all.
-Current & Lundgen, who have had the Kessler hotel under
lease for several months, have turned their lease over to mrs.
Barkers, of Mitchell, Iowa, who has arrived with her family and
taken possession.
-Miss Hazel Black, of Waverly, who is now teaching in the Ames
schools, has been elected superintendent of schools of Butler
county.
Fourteen Years Ago:
-If the chewing tobacco holds out and Manager Kester does not
forget religion, that new switchboard at the telephone will
finally be installed, within the next week.
-We are sorry to note the illness of Henry Huckins, who is
confined to his home and bed with illness.
-G.C. Persons has bought one of the nice modern houses in the
high school addition and will get located there within the next
ten days.
-Harm Cassman and A.B. Mahnke were at Breckenridge, Minn.,
Saturday, on business.
Thirty Years Ago:
-Mrs. Matt blumer, of Greene, is staying at the home of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Brad Hill, and Saturday evening a little
girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Blumer. Matt drove over from Greene
Sunday to see the daughter.
-Miss Tess Dougherty returned to her home in dougherty, sunday,
having served an apprenticeship in the Clancy Sisters Millinery.
-Dr. W.E. Patterson, of clarksville, has bought the practice and
fixtures of Dr. E. Birney, and will soon be a resident of Greene.
-J.H. Runyon is advertising his ice business for sale.
-Ed. Cole and Dr. Reynolds are singing "all along."
They have headquarters up at Round Grove, where the green grass
grows all "round," and are as happy as chums in high
water.
-Prof. W.F. Barr has been reelected for the fourth year as
principal of the Parkersburg schools.
-J.F. Wade, O.F. Blasier and P.J. Clarke were in attendance at
the democratic conventon in Des Moines.
Nashua's Gold Star Mother to Sail For France.
Mrs. Emma Thompson, Nashua's Gold Star mother, has received
notification from the department to prepare to sail for France on
Wednesday, May 14, when the first contingent will go aboard the
S.S. President Harding to sail for France to visit the cemeteries
where their sons who fell in the World War are interred. Mrs.
thompson will go to Waterloo the afternoon of May 10, from which
place in company with other Gold Star mothers she will leave at
12:45 that night for New York city. On board the President
Harding she will have as cabin companions several Gold Star
mothers from Waterloo. -- Nashua Reporter
