THE DAVIDSON PLAYERS HERE ALL NEXT WEEK.
The Davidson Players, under the direct management of S.G.
Davidson, who for several years was the general manager of the
Hazel M. Cass shows, will show in Greene all next week, starting
Monday, May 14. Mr. Davidson, in sending his players to Greene
this year, states that they are second to none; they are the best
that could be obtained in New York, Chicago and Kansas City. They
are artists in their respective lines;
this is very much in evidence, for the company has been playing
to packed tent each night in the towns so far played up this
year. The cast includes Miss Dotty Campbell, leading lady; Miss
Gretchen De Haven, ingenues; Miss Georgie Noble, general
business; Miss Marcia Ligon, fourth business and musical
director; J. Byron Griffith, leading man; Gale Brownell,
juveniles; Harry Young, general business and Dick Lee, comedian
and director. The opening play will be "The Patsy", a
comedy-drama in three acts. This play had a long New York run and
is full of real wholesome comedy from start to finish. The
feature play will be "Getting Gerties Garter." This
play is now being produced in pictures, is full of funny
situations and a scream from curtin to curtain. There will be
lots of singing and dancing vaudeville between acts. No smut-just
clean laughable comedy. Marcia Ligon and her Melody Boys will
furnish the music and she has arranged several special features
in the way of novely numbers, both singing and instrumental. On
the opening night one lady will be admitted with each adult
ticket purchased. The prices are to be 15c and 35c and a 10c
reserved seat charge.
The tent show will be well heated in case that it should turn
cold. So let us all arrange to attend The Davidson Players on
Monday night and give them a real welcome.
[Cathy Labath, transcription note: Sheridan G. Davidson was
married to Hazel Cass, owner of the Hazel Cass Players, in 1928
and later divorced and married Clement McNally, my great uncle,
in 1930. S.G. Davidson then formed his tent show, while Clement
McNally played with the Hazel Cass Players.]
ROSS JOHNSON INJURED.
Ross B. Johnson, of Cherokee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bennett Johnson
of this city, was severely injured last Friday. Mr. Johnson is
supervisor for the Illinois Central railroad. He had a crew of
men loading rails south of
Cherokee. The rail lifter, a compressed air machine devised for
loading and unloading steel rails, broke, allowing one of the
heavy rails to fall upon Johnson. The rail struck him across the
legs. One knee was badly crushed and fractured. He is being cared
for in Sioux Valley hospital. Bennett Johnson expects to go to
Cherokee tomorrow to see his son.--Northwood Anchor.
