Obituary
L.H. Bruns was born in Tripsum, Ost Friesland, Germany, June 7th,
1852, and passed away at the Lutheran Hospital at Hampton, Iowa,
March 27th, 1926, at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 20 days.
His death being caused from Dropsy and other complications. He
was untied in marriage to Gretchen S. Beekman, August 31, 1873,
and to this union nine children were born, two dying in infancy
and one at the age of five. Those left to mourn the loss of their
father are: Mrs. G. Cook, Charles City; Heye, Rockford; Mrs. Carl
Vetter, Parker, S.D.; Ben, Oskaloosa, Iowa; Mrs. Tony Osterman,
Nashua; and Leo, Greene. Mr. Bruns came to this country with his
family, July 3, 1881, and lived at Belmond, Iowa, for about a
yaer, moving to the vicinity of Charles City in 1882. It was
while living near here that he was left to mourn the loss of his
life companion, she dying November 29, 1892. Later Mr. Bruns
moved to Sheffield, Iowa, which place he has made his home for
the past thirty years. On May 4, 1904, he was married to Mary
Jane Gibbs, who preceeded him in death in November, 1922. Funeral
services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of
Leo Bruns, Rev. Butler, of the Methodist Church officiating.
Burial was in Pleasant Grove cemetery.

Ten Years Ago
-After nearly five years of patient suffering and decline, Mrs.
Julius Temple passed away Monday afternoon. She was born in Ohio
in 1850. She was one of the oldest residents of Dayton township,
having resided on the old home farm for 43 years.
-The people of Greene and vicinity were greatly shocked over the
sudden death of August Mauch, which occurred Saturday evening at
8:30 o'clock after only a few days' illness.
-Jacob Potter and wife are celebrating their golden wedding.
-Lee Rogers, who had given Greene a good bakery, is now
installing an ice cream factory.
-The Recorder this week is printed on slugs from our new
Mergenthaller linotype machine.
Twenty Years Ago
-The city election Monday brought out a large vote, Paul
Devereaux was elected mayor over Edwin Morril. O.C. Perrin, M.
McEniry, Dave Carney and H.A. Huckins were chosen councilmen.
-The Farmer's Co-operative Society of Greene is formed with
Oliver McGee, president; Henry Meyne, vice president; W.F.
Scantlebury, secretary and Aaron Kingery, treasurer.
-W.C. Shepard was elected mayor of Allison by one vote over N.W.
Scovel.
-Miss Carrie Trimble is visiting the H.G. Lyford home in Des
MOines.
-Al Lamberson has the contract to move the old Buchholz store
building to a lot across the alley south.
Miss Faye Warner returned home Saturday, from Marshalltown, where
she was visiting her brother, George.
-Mr. and Mrs. Harris Greene, of Des Moines, have arrived in
Greene for a visit.
-We are sorry to note that Rev. Weinland will leave Greene, going
to Sibley, Iowa.
-Attorney Ira Jones, of Clear Lake, was a Sunday visitor in
Greene. Seems as though Ira comes quite often.
