After Davenport Saloonmen
A sensation was caused among the 190 saloonkeepers in Davenport
when Edward J. Dahms, a young attorney, commenced suit for an
injunction against Leo. S. Gadient, and invoked the Iowa mulct
law for the first time in that city. The law provides that there
shall be no screens, free lunches, chairs, tables, card games,
female help, rear entrances, etc., about saloons and none of its
stringent provisions have ever been observed here, although
enforced in many Iowa cities. Attorney Dahms says other suits
will follow and the saloonkeepers are worried.
