SUFFERING ENDS
Long Illness of Mrs. John Call Terminates at 2:30 O'clock
From Saturday's Daily - After a protracted illness, lasting since
February a year ago, death relieved the sufferings of Mrs. John
Call at 2:30 o'clock today. Her long illness was believed to have
resulted from a serious attack of grip which she contracted and
which developed dropsy, to which diseaseher demise is attributed.
Mrs. Call was one of the early settlers of Blackhawk county,
coming here early in the '50's with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
J.J. Baker,locating in Union township, where they resided for a
number of years. Mr. and Mrs. Call were married Nov. 4, 1873, and
until six years ago have lived on their large farm on the
Waterloo and Cedar Falls road, or on a farm in Union township.
Since then Mr. Call has held the position of steward of the poor
farm. Martha R. Baker was born April 2, 1853.
Mrs. Call leaves a husband, John Call, and a son, George
Clarence, who was born in Cedar Falls, September 28, 1874. She
also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Geo. Thompson, and Miss Emmaretta
Baker, the latter having attended the deceased in her last
illness, and one brother who is in South Dakota.
From Monday's Daily - The burial of Mrs. John Call will take
place tomorrow. A brief service will be conducted at the home at
12:30 by Rev. J.A. Earl, pastor of the First Baptist church,
after which the remains will be taken to Cedar Falls, where the
funeral will be held in the Baptist church. Interment will be
made at Cedar Falls. The Macabees and Woman's Relief Corps will
have charge.

New Hartford, Jan. 16--
Mr. and Mrs. Kern of Cedar Falls were over Sunday visitors at the
home of F. Green.
Mr. Merrill of Cedar Falls transacted business in town Thursday
of last week.
Mark Durant and Ruth Ramsey have been quite sick, but are
reported better at this writing.
Mrs. R.E. Wick entertained her friend, Miss Kate Heiber of Cedar
Falls, Sunday.
Wm. Newell of Cedar Falls was in town Saturday.
Mrs. J.A. Cousins and Mrs. Dr. Evans were at Cedar Falls Tuesday.
Mrs. Ed Mooney enjoyed a visit from her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Donohee of Cedar Falls, over Sunday.
Jarvis Whitney returned home from his trip north, Thursday.
Misses Lena and Lora Sprague attended the funeral of their
grandfather, C. Hyett, at Cedar Falls Sunday.
Dentist Axtell's goods have arrived and he is moving this week
into rooms in the Bourquin block.
Mr. and Mrs. D.M. Case went to Cedar Falls Tuesday to attend the
funeral of Mrs. Case's cousin, Mrs. Call.
Revival meetings are in progress at the M.E. church and will
continue throughout the week.
Mrs. Etta Rolfsen was in town Thursday in the interest of the
Townsend and Merril Lumber Company.
Miss Fannie Miller of Cedar Falls is visiting friends in town.
J.W. Plummer and son are nicely located in their new quarters in
the Houlihan block.
Both banquets on Friday evening of last week were largely
attended.
The Woodmen had a banquet Monday night and supper was served at
the Curtis Hotel.
Will Crowston was down from Parkersburg over Sunday.
Mrs. Joseph Geyer died at midnight Thursday, January 11. She has
been a great sufferer for several weeks and her death was not
unexpected. The deceased leaves an aged husband, several children
and many friends to mourn her death. Funeral services conducted
by Rev. Heady were held at the Baptist church Sunday morning and
the remains interred in Oak Hill cemetery.
Miss Laura Girton of Des Moines was the welcome quest of her
cousin, Mrs. E.W. Booten, over Sunday.
