A front page article reported on the commencement of construction of the Atlantic Northern & Southern Railroad on July 13, 1907 about six and a half miles northwest of Atlantic. One hundred teams of horses are expected to be used in doing the initial work of grading the earth to make the roadbed..

The last page reported on further railroad news, by reprinting an entire column from the Atlantic paper telling something about the financing of the venture and of the criticizms being leveled against it by the 'usual nay-sayers'

This edition had a large advertisement for the Atlantic Chautauqua to be held for eight days in August. The program is promised by the ad to feature 'prominent Americans', including William Jennings Bryan. The advertisement also claimed that it was generally conceded that in 1906 Atlantic had put on the best Chautauqua program in the state of Iowa and it promised that the upcoming program
(1) would be better than that of 1906
(2) that no automobiles would be permitted on the Chautauqua grounds.
