Brayton column.
Two of the local men of Brayton were making preparations to go to Lake Okoboji in northern Iowa and it was reported that they "will start by team, expecting to have a big fish and swim in that mighty pond."
(Submitter's note: The later issue of the paper on 8/29/1901 reported further that the vacationers were to be accompanied by their respective wives and expected to be gone from the town for two weeks.)

Brayton column.
The wire for the F. P. HOCKER telephone line from Exira to Brayton and Oakfield arrived at Exira last Monday morning and by the first of next week the men will begin stringing it in Oakfield and then the denizens of that hamlet, for the first time in their lives, can stand in their own dooryards and hold sweet converse with their friends many miles distant in either a northerly or southerly direction.

Brayton column.
Seven thousand pounds of butter have been shipped out of Brayton on last Tuesday evening in a joint effort by three creameries in the area known as Troublesome Valley, Oakfield Township, and Clay Township
