Brayton-Oakfield column.

The first city election ever held in Brayton took place Tuesday and was a spirited but good natured contest. Almost a full vote was out. The gentlemen elected are all good competent men who know how to do business. With Mayor Dr. KOOB at the helm we feel no hesitancy in saying that the administration will be a just and wise one.

--A good time for young and old at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Owen IDE, Thursday evening, May 18th, where the first of a series of social entertainments for the purpose of protecting the friendly intimacy of the people will be given. Everyone who comes is expected to wear something that will illustrate or suggest the name of a book. A laughable time will be enjoyed in guessing what books are represented. Ice cream and cake, vocal and instrumental music, and games of various kinds will be provided. All will be cordially welcomed. It is especially hoped that no young people will miss this sociable. Come determined on having a good time and on helping to make it pleasant for others.
--While plowing his field one day one of the local farmers saw an eagle sitting on a fence. The farmer shot and killed the bird, which "measured six feet five inches from tip to tip."
--The City Council of the town of Brayton met for the first time on Monday evening. The officials were all sworn in and organization was perfected. There will be quite a number of ordinances to pass and considerable other work will have to be done before the council will get the municipal affairs of the little city in perfect running order.

--The City Council of Brayton last week passed an ordinance restraining all persons from permitting livestock to run loose within the incorporated limits. For such offense a fine of not less than fifty cents or more than five dollars will be imposed. Therefore, take notice and govern yourselves accordingly.
--The social at O. T. IDE's place last Thursday evening was largely attended, about seventy being out. The event proved a most delightful evening, especially to the young folks. The guessing contest was a source of much merriment. Miss Frankie CRANE received the first prize and Roy HEATH the booby prize. It is such affairs as these that promote the friendly intimacy of our people and we are hoping more of the kind will follow.
