Locals
-J.K. Boyles and H.S. Gilliam attended the Masonic Grand Lodge at
Davenport this week.
-Dr. Powell, of Russell, well known in the north part of this
county, has removed to California.
-Dr. Smith of Molton and Dr. Reynolds of Iconium attended the
Medical Convention at Des Moines last week. Dr. Reynolds read an
essay on diptheria before the Society.
-Mr. Bird tells us that a many named Joseph Dyer, a cattle drover
from Princeton, Mo., was run over by the cars between Wilton and
Moscow, Thursday evening of last week and killed.
-Decoration day was duly observed. Addresses were made by W.O.
Crosby, Rev. J.A. Wilson and Dr. Stephenson. C. Wentworth
presided. Committee to ornament the monuments: Messrs. Haynes,
Wilson, Ogle, Crosby, Johnson and Williams. Committee to make
arrangements for next anniversary: E.C Haynes, B.A. Ogle, Mrs.
J.L. Morey and Mrs. C. Lane.

-Rev. W.H.H. Smith of West Point, Lee county, is visiting friends
in Lincoln township.
-The Sabbath School was recently reorganized by electing the
following officers: J.M. Crouch, Superintendent; C. Pider,
Assistant; Jas. Hagan, Secretary; and Miss Amanda Baldwin,
Librarian.
-Miss Mell Bradley is teaching a good school.
-James Hagan is very sick.
Special Notices.
Reward - The subscirber, living two miles south of Centerville,
lost on the night of May 29th, a deep blood bay horse, 15 hands
high, 5 years old with a few gray hairs on back of neck. The
owner will pay a reasonable price for his return or information
leading to his recovery. Alexander Stevenson.
Notice - I will present a petition to the Governor of Iowa for
the pardon of Perry Early, now in the State's prison. Mary E.
Howard.
Died, at his residence, near Walnut City, May
29th, 1873, Mr. Job G. Smith, 63 years of age. Deceased had been
a resident of Appanoose ocunty for sixteen years, and a faithful
member of the Methodist church for forty-seven years. He was
conscious to the last and said his way was perfectly clear. He
leaves an aged companion and five children. The funeral services
were conducted by Rev. A.R. Jones, attended by a large concourse
of people.
