FIRE-- We regret to learn that Mr. Hugh Johnson, of Caldwell
Township, lost his grain by fire a few nights ago. The stacks
were set on fire, and the corn crib, which was near them, burned
also. There were several stacks of hay and oats. His entire
winter's feed was destroyed. It is supposed to be the work of an
incendiary. This
is the second instance of the kind that has lately occurred in
the county.
MR. SAMUEL L. BROWN, of Sharon Township has completed a very
comfortable frame dwelling house, and is now living in the same.
THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS did a good thing when they authorized
the painting of signs to be posted at the ends of the principal
bridges in the county, warning people of the penalty for riding
or driving across the bridges faster than a walk. The signs have
been painted by our county clerk elect, Capt. K.P. Morrison, and
if he proves as good a clerk as he is a painter the county will
not have occasion to regret his election.
A FRIEND IN SHARON TOWNSHIP informs us that a substantial school
house has been built in Sub-District No. 1, of that township,
principally through the influence of Mr. John Powell. The house
was built by Mr. E. Orison, and a public school numbering 45
scholars, is being taught in it at the present time. A sabbath
school has also been commenced in it with a fair attendance. We
trust that by the aid of these and other elevating influences
Sharon Township will ultimately be redeemed from the hands of the
barefooted democracy and made to blossom as the rose.
