Card of thanks
We wish to express our deep appreciation to our many
Postville friends for their expressions of sympathy and
thoughtful deeds of kindness in our bereavement, the passing on
of our beloved mother, Mrs. Eliza Swenson. We shall always
remember and cherish your friendliness. The Swenson family.
Death
Ferdinand Hilmer, Frankville resident for many years,
passed away at his home October 18, following a long illness. He
is survived by four sons, Arthur, Charles and Fred of Frankville,
and Albert of Postville. His wife preceded him in death about a
year ago. Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 o'clock
and at the Frankville Community church Wednesday, Rev. Sinning
officiating. Burial was in the Frankville Cemetery.
Proof of Will
Notice that an instrument purporting to be the last will
and testament of David Meyer, deceased, late of Allamakee Co. was
opened and read. A hearing is set for November 23, 1942.
Marriage
Miss LaVila A. Willman, daughter of Mrs. Amelia Willman
of Postville, married Louis A. Schmidt of Chicago, Ill, son of
Mrs. Joseph Schmidt; on October 22 in Chicago.

Private LaVern Ruckdaschel is now located at Kansas City, Mo.
since last week.
Of the group leaving this county on October 20, only two from
Postville were accepted at Fort Des Moines. Milo Decker and
Closse Reed, and they will leave for Camp Dodge November 3.
Failing to pass the examination were Albert Schultz and Clarence
Weihe of this city.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Ruckdaschel drove to Remsen last week where
they visited relatives and also at Marcus, Sioux City, and Lake
Park. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Henkes of near
Farmersburg and Henry Harnack of Rosemead, Calif. On their way
home Monday they called on the Frank and Orville Moon families in
Mason City.
George Leas has been transferred from Tucson, Arizona, to
Oklahoma and his new address is 1971 QM Co., Tent City, Will
Rogers Field, Oklahoma City, Okla.
Private Neil Bulman, who is now stationed at Madison, Wis., as a
radio mechanic in the army, spent the weekend here with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. William G. Bulman.
When the twelve children of Mrs. Evan Swenson came this week to
attend her funeral, it marked the first time in 39 years that
they were home at one and the same time.
A son, 8 lbs, born Thursday to Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Miller,
tenants on the Dresser farm.
John Falb was in Chicago last week on business.
Mr. and Mrs. William H. Seiler of Iowa City and Miss Kathryn
Klingbeil of Norway spent the week-end her with their parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J. Klingbeil.
Bernard A. Houlihan of Harpers Ferry, democratic candidate for
supervisor was a Postville visitor last Friday to call on the
voters of this locality.
A.L. Hansmeier, county auditor was here from Waukon last week to
campaign for reelection on the republican ticket.
Vote for Capt. Nicholas Colsch, democratic candidate for county
Treasurer; veteran of Spanish-American War, served in Cuba with
the 49th Iowa infantry volunteers.
M.L. Connor, democratic candidate for state representative, was
here from Waukon contacting the voters in the interest of his
candidacy. He was formerly engaged in the automobile business in
Waukon and is now in the insurance business. His parents were
born and reared in the county.
Lillian Meierkord, republican candidate for county recorder,
second term.
Vote for Nelle A. Duggan, democratic candidate for clerk of the
district court.
Howard G. Hanson, democratic candidate for county coroner.
Re-elect Henry O. Talle to Congress.
Mr. and Mrs. Roland Peterson and daughter left for their home in
Yankton, So. Dak. Saturday following a visit here to the former's
father, A.L. Peterson.
Sunday marked the birthday anniversary of Mrs. Eda Meyer of htis
city and in honor of the event she had the following in to
dinner: Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Meyer and family, Mr. and Mrs. Victor
Meyer and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Feickert, Mr. and Mrs. Milo
Meyer and daughter.
Mr. and Mrs. Perlie Cook accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Linderbaum of Lansing on a motor trip to LaCrosse, Wis.,
Saturday.

Dear Bill:
I have been receiving the HERALD for several weeks and am writing to express my appreciation. It certainly is nice to keep in touch with the folks at home. I would like to thank all those who are donating to help defray the expenses also. I’m sure all the boys appreciate it very much.
I’m going to an army air force technical school, learning radio operation and mechanics. I like it fine here.
