Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Pearson and family were over at St. Olaf Monday at the home of her sister, Mrs. Roy Honn and husband.

The Rev. Wm. Suckow family visited relatives at Klemme, Iowa, last Thursday and Friday.

Ira Smith started out the New Year with a fine new Chevrolet coach from the sales room of John Falb, Jr.

Miss Evelyn Dresser started school in the Cherry Valley district Monday, after a week's holiday vacation.

Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Mardoff of Esterville were guests in the Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Horgan home last Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank D. Sebastian attended a picnic dinner at the John O. Meyer home near Ossian last Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Truman Overeen moved Tuesday from the Mrs. John Dresser estate house to the Mrs. Carl Wilke house.

Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Sander of Waukon were visitors here Monday in the home of his sister, Mrs. L.E. Thoma and family.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heusman entertained a number of their friends at a six-thirty supper at their home Tuesday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Klein of Waterloo were New Year's day visitors here in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Gass.

Mrs. Frank Ervin returned last Saturday from a holiday visit in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Miller Lee, and husband in St. Paul.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bruns, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Larson were guests on New Year's day in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chet Pearson of route two, Postville.

Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Hunt of Guttenberg and Miss Pearl Middlebrook of Chicago were New Year's day guests here in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Putnam.

Harold Christofferson came back to work at the L.O. Koevenig store on Tuesday morning after having been confined to his home by illness the past ten days.

Miss Betty Douglass, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.R. douglass, began work Tuesday as a saleslady at the Douglass Pharmacy.

Mr. and Mrs. Francis Cummings of Volga City were Saturday evening dinner guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eldo Schultz.

Emil Klemme was here from Stevens Point, Wis., last week to spend part of the holidays inthe Theo. Klemme home on route three.

Eugene Schultz returned here Sunday after having spent the week at Farmersburg with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Kuhse.

Miss Kathryn Klingbell entertained a company of friends, all members of herhigh school graduating class, at her home last Thursday evening.

H.H. Douglass will go to St. Olaf today to attend the funeral of Will Carnie, a relative of Mrs. Douglass, who passed away Monday of this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Dan McNeil, Jr. took their son, Leo, to Dubuque Tuesday where he will resume his studies at Columbia College after a holiday home visit.

Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Sebastian are at Decorah today to attend the funeral services being held for Mrs. Sebastian's grandmother, Mrs. Andrew Moen, aged 91 years.

Howard Humphrey returned to Columbia College, Dubuque, Monday after spending his holiday vacation here in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Humphrey.

Miss Delia Schrandt of Meyer's Four-County Hatchery, was an over New Year's visitor with home folks in Festina.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Groth and family were supper guests New year's evening in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Reincke.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Falb and family of Elgin were guests here on New Year's day in the home of her mother, Mrs. Amanda Phillips.

Mr. and Mrs. Eldo Kluss, Neva Kluss and Cheri motored to Fredericksburg and spent New Year's day in the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Sullivan.

Perry Perkins, Mrs. William Ewing, the Misses Gladys and Mabel Ewing were guests on New Year's day of Robert Ewing at the Joe Sein home at Tripoli.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Lange and family of Prairie du Chien were dinner guests here Monday in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gaddes Brooks. They were New Year's day visitors in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Lange, of route three, Postville.

Miss Jane Cole returned to her duties at Mercy hospital, Dubuque, Monday after an over New Year's visit here in the home of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. H.D. Cole.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vondersitt of this city were New Year's day guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chas Barburek at Conover. Mrs. Barburek is a sister of Mr. Vondersitt.

Mr. and Mrs. Chris Sorenson and family of Minneapolis were visitors here on New Year's day in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rima. Mrs. Sorenson is a sister of Mr. Rima.

Lloyd Bowman of Kidder, South Dakota, and Jimmy Morse of Claremont, South Dakota, are here for a visit in the home of their cousin, Mrs. Johnnie C. Martens, and family and with other relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J. Klingbeil took their daughter Kathryn to Mt. Carroll, Illinois, Tuesday were the latter resumed her studies at Frances Shimer Junior College after her visit here over the holidays.

Miss Florence Casten left Monday for Rock Island, Ill., to resume her teaching duties in the public schools of that city after a holiday visit here in the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Casten.

Mr. and Mrs. Keith Gray and Roland drove to Iowa City Monday to take their son, Earl, and Eulalia Klingbeil back to their studies at the State University of Iowa after a holiday visit here in their respective homes.

Mary Hope Humphrey and Donald Humphrey returned to their studies at the State University of Iowa at Iowa City on Monday after spending the holiday season here in the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Humphrey.

Clifton Weihe left Sunday for Lamberton, Minn. to resume his teaching duties in the public schools of that city after spending the holiday season here in the home of his mother, Mrs. John C. Weihe, of route one, Postville.

Will Leui drove out to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arbe Behrens last Sunday and brought them in for a quiet New Year's dinner at the Leui home. This was Arbe's first away from home meal since leaving the hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Elliott of this city, Mrs. Louis Ulish, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Wagner, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rathbun and Jo Ann of Monona, and Helen Baker of Decorah were New Year's dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Julian Elliott of Postville.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Benjegerdes of Postville returned to their home Friday after spending the week here. They were called here a week ago Monday by the death of Henry Schumacher - Garnavillo item in the Guttenberg Press.

Mr. and Mrs. Helmie Meyer and family and Mrs. Henry Eggert drove to the Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Hangartner home in Franklin township, New Year's day to see the new baby girl that arrived in that home the latter part of last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gamble drove to Cedar Falls Tuesday taking back with them Jack Bush, Shirley Huebner and Jean Horgan to resume their studies at the Iowa State Teachers College after spending the holiday season here in the homes of their parents.

Mrs. Fred Ernst went to St. Paul, Minnesota last Friday and spent the New Year's weekend in the homes of her sons, Leo in St. Paul and Leslie in Minneapolis.

Miss Cathryn Harrington came out from Chicago and spent the New Year's weekend here in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cy Harrington. she returned to the Windy City Monday accompanied by Miss Marjorie Malone, who had been here on a holiday visit to her mother, Mrs. Ethel Malone, and other relatives.

Undertaker Louis Schutte was called to Lansing Tuesday evening to prepare the remains of August Ahlstrom of that city for burial. Deceased was aged 82 years, four months and two days and is the father of Mrs. Ralph Pixler of West Union. The funeral will be held at two o'clock today from the Evangelical church in Lansing.

Mrs. S.M. Severson of Calmar was a Tuesday visitor at the Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Flaskerud home.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Pearson and family were Sunday visitors in the Colby Jones home near Lawler.

Mr. and Mrs. Pat Brandt were Sunday visitors in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Miene, in McGregor.

A.J. Palas will go to Waterville this evening to address the Parent-Teachers Society on the subject, "Life of OUr Birds."

J.F. Fisher informs us that his son, Schnickelfritz, and his famous orchestra are to be in Clear Lake, Sunday, January 15.

Mrs. Will Krambeer of Greene arrived here last week for a protracted visit in the home of her brother, J.P. Ellis, and family.

"Buddy" Folsom, who has been assisting at the Schnickelfritz service station, is now helping his father, Gilbert Folsom, in the livestock business.

Mrs. Edith Palas will entertain her group of Commercial Club ladies at a 6:30 dinner this eveing at the Blue Arrow, followed by a season at bridge.

Mrs. Ed Overland and James, went to Decorah Sunday afternoon for a little visit with their son and brother, Ernie Overland, a student at Luther College.

Mr. and Mrs. John Elliott and family were Sunday visitors in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Snitker, in the Cherry Mound section of Allamakee county.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Pearson went to McGregor Monday afternoon to attend the funeral of Mrs. Balcer, a former resident of Hardin, who will be best remembered as Iva Vaughn.

S.A. Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Obert Harris and Louis Hangartner returned here last week after having been at Zanesville, Ohio, to attend the funeral of C.L. Harris, brother of S.A. Harris.

R.J. Elliott and Julian Elliot left Sunday for Moline, Illinois, where they attended a three days meeting of John Deere dealers held at the company's office in that city. they were expected home yesterday.

Mr. and Mrs. Eldo Schutte, who have been living on the old Frank Rounds place on route one, Postville, last Thursday moved to the Wm. Willman farm northwest of Postville, which they have rented for the coming year.

Mr. and Mrs. John Falb returned Monday from a week-end visit in Chicago.

John Falb, Sr. and Walter Falb, a pair of Elgin's progressive business men, were Postville visitors Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed. F. Schroeder and family were Sunday visitors in the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. John Kohrs.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schroeder and family were Sunday visitors in the home of his mother, Mrs. Bertha Schroeder.

Joseph Duwe was at Monona last week visiting in the home of his mother, Mrs. Henry Duwe, and his brother, Herman Duwe.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gulsvig, Mrs. Maude Gass and Gloria, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Renzman and Betty Jean were Sunday motor visitors in Lansing.

Miss Loretta Horgan and Russell Brown of Sumner motored here Sunday and spent the day in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Horgan.

Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Schutte of Luana and Fred Schutte of this city were Sunday evening visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank D. Sebastian on route three, Postville.

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Hofer entertained Mr. and Mrs. Gaddes Brooks at supper in their home Monday, in honor of the birthday anniversary of her father, Mr. Brooks.

Robert Thompson, merchandise salesman for the Interstate Power Co., returned last week from his holiday vacation spent with relatives in Minneapolis and Crookston, Minn.

Mr. and Mrs. H.F. Eberling and family, Mr. and Mrs. Arno Schutte and family, Mr. and Mrs. Helmie Meyer and family were Sunday evening supper guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Meyer.

Mr. and Mrs. Warren Harrington were over at West Union Sunday visiting in the Mr. and Mrs. Henry Herwig home. They came back via Elgin, where they stopped to call on Warren's father, C.J. Harrington.

Mr. and Mrs. Perry Cook, Elouise Weiss and Darlen Meyer of Waterloo and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Cook and family were dinner guests Sunday in the Mr. and Mrs. Burr Cook home. Don Martindale of Waukon was also present.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Willman became Postville residents last Thursday when neighbors and friends assisted them in moving from their farm northwest of town into the house they recently purchased from the Mrs. John Dresser estate.

Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Riser were at Preston last Friday to visit in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vern Sires. Mrs. Riser that evening attended the Eastern Star Chaper of that city where Mrs. Sires was installed as Worthy Matron.

Henry Warnholz of the Waukon locality was a Postville visitor yesterday in the home of his brother, Charles Warnholz and wife, and found time to make his annual call at the Herald office to boost his subscription into the paid in advance class.

Verni J. Schultz, buttermaker in the mcGregor creamery was a Postville business visitor last Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ruckdaschel and Curtis moved to Decorah Wednesday where Mr. Ruckdaschel is employed - from the Guttenberg Press.

Louis Schutte went to Chicago Sunday night to attend the furniture mart and purchase a large supply of new and up-to-date furniture for his three big stores, at Postville, West Union and Calmar.

-Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Dahms and daughters of Luana, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Olson and Jean Olson of Postville, were guests at the Mr. and Mrs. John Kluss home Sunday afternoon.

-The Lutheran Ladies' Aid Society was entertained at the church parlors Wednesday afternoon. The hostesses were Mrs. John Stendel, Mrs. John Kluss, Mrs. Carlous Meyer and Mrs. Clifford Stee.

-Miss Lorene Dahms entertained the following guests at Five Hundred at her home Tuesday evening: Mrs. L.J. Meyer, Mrs. Clarence Luebka, Mrs. Carlous Meyer, Violet Schultz, Mrs. Earl Dahms, Mrs. Merle Lange, Mrs. Elmer Buddenberg and Mrs. C.B. Schopp.

-Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schultz entertained the following guests at their home Saturday eveing in honor of the former's birthday anniversary: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schultz, Mr. and Mrs. Oran Brandt, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Lange, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bachelder, Mr. and Mrs. J.P. -A.J. Oelberg took his son, Francis, to Waterloo Wednesday evening to get a train to Council Bluffs to finish his school year at the Iowa School for the Deaf.

Mr. and Mrs. George Kruse and Bernice and Marjorie Thornton attended a wedding shower in Farmersburg Friday evening given for Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Huckstadt. The bride was formerly Dana Deal.

Thomas Bollman returned Friday from a visit with his sister, Mrs. Mary Schiff, and her children, Loren Schiff and Mrs. Norma Schaaf, all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He also visited his nephew and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Pratt, in Chicago for several days.

-Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Looney attended the funeral of the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Lenth at Luana Thursday.
-Miss Kathleen McDonald of Mason City spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Lee Folsom and returned to her home Thursday morning.
-Mr. and Mrs. Arno Krambeer, Joyce and Rita Mae were Sunday dinner guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Scheffert near Luana.
-Louis Krambeer came home from Rochester, Minnesota, Saturday after spending the past week with Mrs. Louis Krambeer at the Colonial hospital.
-Duane Lubbers was at Farmersburg Wednesday and acted as best man at the wedding of his friends, Homer Moritz and Donna Mae Oelke. Homer will be remembered as the son of Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Moritz, who lived in Grand Meadow for a long time.

-Mr. and Mrs. Fred Segrist were Friday visitors in Waukon.
-George Nuehring spent last Sunday with friends in Clermont.
-Mrs. Otto Roffman was somewhat under the weather last week.
-Mrs. Pearl Arnold of Waukkon is assisting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eaton Waters.

Fire of unknown origin destroyed the house on the farm known as the Henry Lawson place last Thursday night. James Ewing had his furniture in the house and lost it all. John Dundee has the place rented for the coming year.
