Postville's new filling station will be opened Saturday by
Leonard Hammel & Son, who have just completed the erection of
the building and pumps on the former Pearson lots just north of
the Howard Gordon property on South Lawler street.
While making his rounds last evening Marshal Elmer Lennon found a
12 year old lad and his bicycle at the Fred J. Miller filling
station, who was without funds and was enroute to Chicago to
visit relatives, whose names he knew but he did not know their
city address. The lad was crying bitterly when the officer found
him and related the story of his father and mother having
separated.
Fred Groth, of the Groth Produce house informs us that he is
taking in poultry at the rate of ten thousand pounds per day and
has seven men at work weighing and crating them out for the
markets.
Carl and Miss Bernice Burling and Clifton Candee pulled into
Postville by auto last evening with their appetites all whetted
for Thanksgiving turkey, and to enjoy their weekend vacation from
their studies at Iowa State College, Ames, with home folks and
many friends.
George W. Hein, Joe Hecker, Fred C. Ruckdaschel and Gilbert
Stockman were over at Waukon last Thursday evening to attend a
code meeting of the Alamakee county auto dealers' association.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hoth and family were trying out different
eating places last Sunday and pronounce them all good. The had
breakfast at home, diner at the Ed Meyer home near Castalia and
supper with the Paul Koevenig family at Decorah.
