Here's A Hand At Bridge Worth Taking A Shot At.
Postville has a lot of bridge fans, but we wonder how many of them ever held a hand like this one held by a McGregor lady and related in the Times as follows: One of those bridge hands you "read about" was held by Mrs. Eileen Walter at the Business and Professional Women's club card party at the Community Rooms Monday evening. Mrs. Walter had ony two suits, hearts and diamonds. She held 100 honors in hearts and 80 honors in diamonds. After her bid was raised to 4 hearts and then doubled, her partner, Martin Eggen, having 80 honors in clubs, and the ace in the opponents suit bid 5 clubs. Mrs. Walter bid five hearts. Her opponents were Mrs. Jack Slyfield and Charles Widman and Mr. Widman doubled. Mrs. Walter redoubling. She made a small slam, scoring 667 points, losing only the ace of diamond trick.

F.H. Depping of Ludlow was a Herald caller last Friday, while awaiting a train for Des Moines, where he went to attend the twenty-second annual state convention of the Iowa Brotherhood of Threshermen of which Mr. Depping is president. The convention was held Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, but Mr. Depping went early for the purpose of visiting one of the directors of the association at Ames.

You are earnestly invited to join with christians of all lands in World Fellowship of prayer on March 7th, by attending the union service to be held in the Community Presbyterian church on that day at two o'clock. Earl Reiners, D.C. left Monday for Postville, where he has opened an office for the practice of chiropractic. Earl is a graduate of the Palmer school at Davenport and has been practicing his profession here with his father, H.A. Reiners, D.C., for the past two years. He is a fine young man and we recommend him to the Postivlle community as a worthy citizen and professional member of their community. -- West Union Union.

Mrs. Lester Williams, who has been here visiting at the homes of Mrs. Wm. Larrabee and other relatives, including the Wm. Larrabee Jr. home, left the first of the week for her home in Lewiston, Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. Williams have cleared a tract of land and have it under cultivation. They are near a summer resort and tourists in the summer visit there and hunters in the winter make things lively and the Williams derive a source of revenue from these visitors who often visit their farm and get accommodations there. -- Clermont American.
