Local Happenings.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. W. Fay were Cresco motor visitors Sunday.
Miss Phyllis Brause spent the weekend with home folks in West
Union.
Mrs. J.A. Steele was a visitor in Cedar Rapids several days last
week.
Mrs. John H. Meier is entertaining the Cozy Club at her home this
afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. L.O. Koevenig went to Elgin last Friday evening to
attend a party.
R.R. Douglass visited the Masonic lodge at Calmar Monday.
Miss Anna Neilly returned Wednesday from her business trip to
Chicago.
Fred Block and Reuben Stock have each purchased a tudor Ford
sedan in Postville the past week.
Mr. and Mrs. G.L. Peterson and family were Sunday visitors at
Decorah and Bily Bros. clock shop.

Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Gregg and family and Mrs. James Gregg visited
the Green Bros. sugar bush last Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Julius Heins spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Chas Breitsprecher in Clayton Center.
Mrs. E.W. Moritz and children and Mrs. Amy Reincke spent Saturday
with Mrs. Melvin Mitchell at Postville Junction.
Mr. and Mrs. C.F. Reincke, Delbert Knapp and Felix Moritz spent
Sunday with the A.W. and H.C. Moritz families of Monona.
Judge H.E. Taylor has been suffering considerably of late with a
boil in his nose, for which surgical attention was necessary. -- Waukon

Boies Capper thought he would have chickens to burn at his
Allamakee Hatchery on Monday of this week, but before the sun set
he had them all sold out. Miss Agnes Hubacker of Mason City has
been spending the past week visiting in the Wm. Moritz and C.F.
Reincke homes in this city and with Monona relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Falb and daughter went to Postville Sunday to
visit in the A.J. Phillips home.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schmitz were Ossian visitors Sunday.
Louis Heins Jr. is driving a fine Chevrolet coach purchased from
R.F. Hecker & Sons.
Mrs. Ernest Bentien and Mrs. Gilbert Rose spent Thursday
afternoon with Mrs. C.F. Reincke.
Mrs. Gertrude M. Johnson of Decorah is at Postville Hospital
taking treatment for rheumatism.
Mrs. Henry Udson went to Postville Monday to visit her mother,
Mrs. Harry Neff -- Clermont American.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Youngblood of Elkader were Sunday visitors
here in the home of Mr. and Mrs. M.E. Hirsch.
W.M. Wolverton of Mason City was in Postville in the interests of
the Milwaukee railroad company.
Mr. and Mrs. Erni Hathaway, Mrs. Louise Thoma and Mrs. Amy
Reincke spent Monday in Decorah, where Ernie was one of the
broadcasters.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. W. Hein entertained the Jolly Rovers at a
picnic supper at their home last Sunday, followed by a season at
Bridge.
W.F. Brandtman of Monona was a business caller in Postville
Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Lennon were business visitors in Waukon Monday.
Lloyd Palmer and son Buddie were Minneapolis business visitors
Wednesday of last week.
A baby daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Doan of Ossian at
Postville Hospital Tuesday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brown of LeRoy, Minn., came Tuesday for a visit
with relatives, the Stockman families.
Mrs. C.A. Cool and daughter of Decorah spent Saturday here in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Humphrey.
Mrs. E.J. Lennon and grandson Edgar Nelson, were at Ossian
Tuesday visiting in the Thos. Johnson home.
J.T. Humphrey was at Luana on Tuesday to attend the annual
meeting of stockholders of the Luana Savings Bank.
Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Sires and family went to Postville Saturday
evening where Mr. and Mrs. Sires attended a "500" party
in the Edgar Riser home -- Elgin Echo.
George Nydegger was sick the first of the week and unable to be
at work at the creamery. F.L. Sires' brother of Postville helped
out during his abseence. -- Elgin Echo.

The UB Church Bronze memorial tablet on the wall of the new
Postville Church. It will bear the names of members of the Bethel

Weekly Practice Record.
In the weekly practice record we find that both Jones' are ahead,
Maxine with 1160 minutes and Harley with 1060, while the
following have 500 or more minutes practice to their credit:

Heusman, Wilma Galloway, L. Stockman, Don Galloway, M. Masonhall,
R. Galloway, B. Webster, M. Jacobia, C. Harrington, Hawkins,

Mrs. Harvey sold the late Newton Harvey residence, just at the
north edge of town, to Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hoth, who will take
possession May first. The place is now occupied by Mr. and Mrs.
Roy Welzel.
Mr. and Mrs. L.O. Koevenig of Postville and Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Shipton of Alta Vista visited in the C.J. Harrington home Sunday.
In the afternoon the above mentioned and Mr. and Mrs. Harrington
and daughter Mae went to Manchester, where they visited in the
W.J. Kohler home. -- Elgin Echo.
Dr. and Mrs. G.E. Jorgenson have just returned to Clermont after
a winter spent in Hollywood, Calif., and the morning following
their arrival in Clermont the ground was white with snow, which
causes the doctor to elucidate as follows: "Was delighted
with the friendly greeting of the weather - a snowstorm - so
appropriate for one coming home from California. We enjoyed it
immensely."
One of the sure signs of the arrival of spring is the opening of
the horseshoe pitching season along the east side of the Douglass
Pharmacy, the links being presided over by L.J. Masonhall and his
helper Harry Baldwin, who take on all comers and give them a good
"reefing" if possible.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Swenson of Forest Mills, Mr. and Mrs. Chet
Barr of Luana, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Pearson of Postville, Mildred
Swenson and Mr. and Mrs. Geberth McSkimmons of Waukon were
visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Swen Swenson last Sunday.
They are all relatives of the Swensons and with their families
came down to see how the new hotel folks were situated in the new
place. --Clermont American.

Obituary.
Louise Henriette Charlotte Koenig Kaiser died at the age of 60
years, one month and 12 days on the 6th day of April, 1930, at
4:30 p.m., at her home in Monona, Iowa. Mrs. Kaiser was the hcild
of Wilhelm Koenig and Charlotte Meyer and was born February 25,
1870, in Lever Soender, Province Westphalia, Germany. Here she
was baptized in the same year. March 13, 1883, she was confirmed
in the Lutheran church of Postville, Iowa. Nine years later she
was married to Charley Kaiser. With her departure the Ladies' Aid
Society of St. Paul's E. L. congregation has lost one of its
charter members, which she served in her quiet and willing way
since the year 1906. The deceased leaves to mourn her departure
the husband, Charley Kaiser; two sons, Alvin and Walter of
Monona; one daughter, Cornelia; three brothers and their
families, Louis, William and Fritz Koenig, Castalia; four sisters
and their families, Mrs. Minnie Poesch, Mrs. Mary Schroeder, Mrs.
Rosine Ruckdaschel, all of Postville; and Mrs. Lena
Christofferson of Louisa.
Death.
Fred Lammert, a well known farmer residing a short distance
northwest of Postville, was so badly injured in a runaway while
returning from that place last Tuesday evening that he never
regained consciousness and died the following day.
Local Happenings.
A. VanCunin and Dr. Joyee Schmidt motored here form Iowa City
Saturday evening for an over-Easter visit in the home of the
latter's parents, Dr. and Mrs. A.A. Schmidt.
The Goodrich Produce Co. in this city had more business Monday
than the proverbial cranberry merchant, there being five helpers
at work beside Manager Howard Gordon, viz., Wallace Gordon, Ed
Thoma, Harry Gordon, Fritz Meyer and Richard Gordon.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Koevenig and baby motored here Saturday from
Dubuque to spend Easter in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
F.J. Meyer.
Mrs. F. Frantzen of Ossian spent Easter here in the home of her
sister, Mrs. W.E. Durno. She was on the way home from Hammond,
Ind., where she had been to make the acquaintance of a little
daughter recently born to Mr. and Mrs. Wilson of that city. Mrs.
Wilson will be best remembered hereabouts as Sylvia Lukenbill of
Ossian.
In sending in her subscription remittance to the Herald,
Mrs. Anna Redhead Spurling of Los Angeles, Calif., says:
"Have been having such a wonderful time seeing the beautiful
country and getting settled in a little apartment of our own, and
time sure goes by quickly here. We are just delighted with it all
and now think this is where we will spend the remainder of our
days. Best regards to all our dear friends back in the old home
town."
On Friday last, J.W. Campbell drove to Cedar Falls after the
Postville delegation at the state teachers college, Carolyn
Campbell, Loretta Horgan and Helen Wegner, whom he brought back
with him to spend Easter with home folks.
