314 school children went through the free dental clinic at
Postville school this week.
-Abbie MONROE of Castalia and Charles DeSOTEL of Luana were
married April 10.
-Harvey KROGMAN won third place in the county spelling bee held
at Waukon Saturday.
-George BACHELDER, a former Castalia boy, was married to Stella
CALL at Cedar Rapids on April 4.
-Dr. Frederick BECKER, who practised medicine in Clermont since
1875, and well known to many of our readers, passed away at his
home in that city last week aged 85 years.
-Mrs. Margaret LOCHMILLER, sister of J.M. HARRIS, passed away at
her apartment yesterday morning. Her remains, according to her
oftrepeated wish, were taken to Denver, Colo., for burial.
-Harry NEFF of West Union will succeed George TJADEN as Rock
Island depot agent here next month. George has held down the job
for several years, succeeding the late J.E. PERRY, upon the
latter's retirement.
-A Castalia correspondent writes: "Raymond SAMEK, Adolph
KOEVENIG, Clarence HOTH, Verni SCHULTZ, Christ FISCHER, Dewey
HARRIS and Paul MARSTON are being seen in our town frequently of
late. What's the attraction boys?"
-Justin BELLOWS, who has been touring the southern states during
the winter months, arrived here Monday. You can go ahead with
gardening now folks, when Justin comes, spring isn't far off.
-L.A. BELLOWS was appointed street commissioner, marshal and
waterworks superintendent, which will make him the office
holdingest man in the town administration. Dr. A.A. Schmidt was
named town health officer. Appointments were made Friday night by
Mayor George W. FAY.

NEW ALBIN NEWS
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Mettille of La Crosse, Wisc. and Mrs. Mary
Praell of Winona, Minn., having spent a few days with the
former's brother Louis in this neighborhood, returned to their
respective homes Saturday morning.
Dry cleaning, pressing and general tailoring done quickly and
satisfaction guaranteed. Bring us your work and it will be

A "weiner roast", the first of the season, was enjoyed
by Miss Emma Dorman's Sunday School class, and several invited
guests, at the stone quarry Friday evening. Prof. and Mrs. Lee
Hench chaperoned the crowd of young folks.
Announcement has been received by New Albin relatives of the
marriage of Rev. Wallace Hayes of Boston, and Miss Emma
Timberlake, at Portland, Maine, April 12th. Rev. Hayes is a son
of MR. and Mrs. John Hayes and a former New Albin boy, having
been reared to young manhood in our midst.
Mrs. Mike Plembing of Rochester, Minn., en route for a visit with
relatives in Dubuque, stopped off at New Albin and was
entertained over Sunday at the home of Mrs. Bridget O'Reilly.
Mrs. Plembing, whose married name was Mary Magner, is well known
in these parts, having spent her early days in this vicinity.
Anniversary Mass for Father Ryan who died April 30, 1922, will be
celebrated at St. Joseph's church, Friday morning at 9 o'clock.
Father Hayes being assisted by Msgr. G.L. Haxmeier of Lansing,
Father Cremer of Dorchester, and Father Costello of Wexford. A
Solemn High Mass will be sung, with Msgr. Haxmeier as celebrant,
Father Cremer as deacon, Father Costello as sub-deacon, and
Father Hayes as master of ceremonies. It goes without saying that
the church will be crowded on this occasion.
