Hall has been engaged for the occasion, the people of every
religious denomination, and of none, have joined forces to make
this a tremendous "Welcome Home" to our distinguished
former townsman, as well as the largest religious gathering ever
assembled in Allamakee county. A special song service is being

The foregoing young couples of this locality are well and
favorably known and we join their many friends in the wish that
health and happiness may be with them throughout long and useful
lives.
--
Former residents here, scarcely without exception, always have a
warm spot in their hearts for Postville. No matter how long they
may have been gone, or how well they have prospered, they retain
a friendly feeling for the "old home town," and note
with real pleasure every stride forward to newer and better
things. Among the many who have gone out fro here to other
fields, none have remained more loyal to Postville than has John
E. (alias Dutch) Sheehy, of Grand Forks, N.D., and he is very
much interested now in our getting a new school house, and in a
letter of recent date has the following pertinent thereto:
"I do not know what improvements have been made in the Old
Red Brick since I helped in wearing out it's floors, but if there
has not been great improvements made, especially in a sanitary
way, the humane society ought to have all you Postville taxpayers
doing time. I have noticed your school levy under the present
situation and what it will be by having the building you desire
and have compared it to what we are paying here in Grand Forks.

Obituary
I.A. Harman was born in Morgan Co. Ohio, February 5, 1840, and
died at his home in Morgan County, February 3, 1914; lacking but
two days of being 74 years of age. In 1866 he was married to
Lydia Shepherd of Morgan Co., and lived the first year of his
married life at this place. In 1867 he moved to Clinton co.,
Iowa, residing there for a period of two years, then came to
Postville, Iowa, which was his home for over thirty years. Into
this home four children were born, three of whom, with their
mother, died during the year 1877. The one surviving being Mrs.
Effie Hanchett of Hawkeye, Iowa. He was then married to Martha
Ady of Morgan Co., Ohio, and to this union there were born three
children -- Charles M. of Lavina, Montana; John J. of Valley
Falls, Kansas, and Mrs. Gertrude Snodgrass of La Crosse, Wis. In
1901 Mr. Harman left Iowa and returned to his early Ohio home,

Postville Review
Postville, Allamakee co. Iowa
February 27, 1914
School House Wins!
At the Special Election Monday the Voters Decide Almost 4 to 1 in
Favor of a New School House. Happy Hurrah! The progressive people
of Postville Independent School District made a big forward
stride Monday, when by a vote of almost 4 to 1, they decided to
bond the district for $40,000 to erect a new school building. In
all 476 votes were cast. 365 'yes' and only 99 'no'. There were
14 defective ballots. As the women only vote a few times during a
century, while the men vote early and often and absolutely know
all there is about it, it is strange the women had but 2
defective ballots more than the men. All of which goes to show
that if they had the ballot all the time, as they ought, they
would make us intellectual giants look like 50 cents. [long
article followed]
The John R. Mott meeting, Sunday February 22nd,
was the largest religious assemblage ever convened in Allamakee
county. Held in Postville's magnificent new Turner Hall, there
was neither a hitch, nor flaw, nor disappointment of any
description to mar in the least degree the splendid "Welcome
Home: to our distinguished former townsman. [longer article
