CHERRY MOUND NEWS
- Dr. DILLON and wife and little Joseph spent one day recently at
grandma KELLY's.
- Helen KELLY spent a few days last week with her friend,
Florence RYDER of Route 1.
- Our young folks had a jolly good time during the holidays and
sleighing was good.
- Matilda RODENKIRK of McGregor was a {illegible} visitor with
home folks on Paint Creek.
- Eugene TRACY spent most of last week with his cousins, the
KELLY boys, in Paint Rock.
- Margaret FAHEY was an over night guest last Friday of relatives
in Waukon, the KAVENY family.
- Jas. CONLEY has had a fine monument placed recently in their
family lot in the Cherry Mound cemetery.
- Emmet McGEOUGH, John FAHEY and Rob McNALLY spent a few days
last week with friends in Waukon.
ENGLISH BENCH NEWS
- Ross McNEARNEY and Henry WELPER were business callers on the
bench on Saturday.
- Irving WENIG and sister, Tena, are visiting at the home of
their sister at Gray, Iowa.
- Mary KELLY and Margaret GRIFFIN visited last week with the
young ladies of the MALONE family.
- Warren YOUNG and sister, Prudence, of Perth, North Dakota, are
visiting relatives on the bench and at Lansing.
- We understand that one of the members of the SIRES Brothers
Orchestra purchased a new $300 harp last week.
- Henry GERLING arrived home Saturday from spending a few days at
Guttenberg. Hank reports a fine time.
- Clarence YOUNG came out from Lansing the fore part of the week
for a few days' sightseeing in these parts.
- Wallace LONG was called from Woodbine, Illinois, last week, on
the sad errand of attending the funeral of his mother.
- John SCHROEDER and Maurice WATERS each purchased light bobs
last week from our home dealer, H. SCHWARTZHOFF.
- John BEARDMORE visited friends in Lansing last week, the
ANDERSON and W.H. YOUNG families. John went to witness the
wrestling match and to have a short outing.
- It is with much regret that we learn that Father BRADY is to be
removed from Dorchester, his new field of labor being at Calmar,
Iowa. Father BRADY is a man who is well liked by people of all
denominations.
- Miss Evangeline BJORKLAND of North Dakota, spent last week on
the bench at the E.J. SADLER home. She was one of a crowd of
school children who were caught in a blizzard up north two years
ago, having a narrow escape from losing their lives.
- Died, at her home at Dorchester, on Tuesday, January 2, Mrs.
Dan LONG, after a short sickness of but a few days. Mrs. LONG was
a kind hearted woman and a good neighbor. She leaves beside her
aged husband, two sons and two daughters, besides a large circle
of friends. The funeral was held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning
at the M.E. church, burial taking place in the English Bench
cemetery. Rev. J.E. JOHNSTON preached the funeral sermon.
NEW ALBIN NEWS
- M.J. KAVANAUGH spent Sunday at La Crosse.
- Nina GOBEL was a La Crosse caller last Saturday.
- John MAGNUSSON left last week for Houston, Minnesota.
- Lucy HIGGINS left last week for Winona, Minnesota, where she is
attending the State Normal School.
- The BEARDMORE Brothers Orchestra furnished music for the New
Year's dace and gave a good satisfaction.
- Mrs. A. DOOLAN and Mrs. M. {illegible} attended the funeral of
their nephew, Mike WELCH's son, at Caledonia, Monday.
FRENCH CREEK NEWS
- J.L. HIRTH spent new Year's at the John MAUSS home.
- Ray BULMAN was a business caller in New Albin last Saturday.
- Maggie HOFFMAN is home from McGregor spending the holidays.
- Rev. JOHNSON was a pleasant caller at the John DOWLING home one
day last week.
- Ray BULMAN is the new cream hauler this year. Our best wishes
for him and good weather and good roads will do the rest.
- Fred BUNTROCK took a trip to Waukon last Saturday and while
there purchased a set of runners for his {illegible} buggy so he
can go rain or snow to see who?
- Barney WIEMERSLAGE finished three months' job of work for C.
LANE and we cannot speak too well of his work as a hired man.
Barney spent a week with home folks and is now working for M.
DONOVAN.
- Fred HAMMELL finished his second term for John MAUSS.
