Hall ROBERTS went to Athens, Wis., Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. R. SUNDE went to Chicago yesterday.

John G. REIDEL, of Monona was in town a few hours Monday.

M.C. MEAD, of Clermont, has gone to work for the Ossian Enterprise.

Miss Vera SMITH of Volga City, returned home last Saturday after an extended visit at Fred DAVID's.

During a recent expedition into Indiana, Ellis and Frank EATON bought a [illegible] drive, 20 h.p., four passenger [illegible] automobile.

Ben N---[surname in fold of paper] left the first of the week for his homestead near Ft. Pierre, S.D. and as soon as he gets his belongings squared around he will send down for is wife and babies.

Miss [first name in fold of paper] McEWEN arrived in Postville [illegible] night from Duluth, Minn, spending a week's vacation at [illegible] home of her parents, mr. and Mrs. James McEWEN.

After a week's visit to her cousin, Mrs. Jos-- [remainder of name illegible] HANDEL, of this city, Mrs. Jo -- LE-- [name in fold of paper] returned Tuesday morning to her home in Foley, Minn. This was the first meeting of the ladies in 22 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Franz DRESSER, their daughter Miss Cora and granddaughter Mill Alma DRESSER, their son Chas. DRESSER and wife and son, and one of the Mrs. S.D. PUTNAM boys will soon leave for Emmett, Idaho, to reside.

Last Wednesday Sheriff SWEBAKKEN was taken seriously ill with appendicitis and Thursday morning was taken to LaCrosse where he underwent a surgical operation that day which proved successful and he is recovering nicely.

LUTHERAN CHURCH NEWS.
--The son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur BEHRENS was baptized March 18th, receiving the name Wilhelm Harlan Herman. Sponsors -- Wilhelm MEIER and Herman DETTMER.
--The son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. SCHROEDER was baptized March 21st, receiving the name Arbe Carl Ludwig. Sponsors -- Carl MEYER and Ludwig SCHROEDER.

BETHEL NEWS ITEMS.
--It is reported that Nelson DEAL is slowly improving.
--Miss McGORRETY will teach the Evergreen school this summer.
--John HAMMEL is up and around again. It takes a hard run of sickness to keep John in bed. We understand it is pneumonia that is troubling him.
--The children of Frank ROFFMAN and Fred SEGRIST have been quite sick lately, but are reported better now.

DEATH.
Mrs. Louise THIAS, mother of Adolph THIAS, died at her home near Watson, Iowa, March 10th, in her 73rd year.

OBITUARY.
August Heinrich Dietrich REINHART was born in Schessinghansen, Germany, March 31, 1844, and died at his home in Winneshiek Co., Iowa, northwest of Postville, at seven o'clock on Thursday morning, March 16, 1909, aged 64 years, 11 months and 16 days. In 1873 he came to America, settling first in Clayton county and later to Winneshiek county. He was first married to Caroline SCHLUETER; to this union were born two sons and four daughters; the wife and one daughter having died. In 1891 he was married a second time, to Mrs. Alwine HELMKE; to this union were born two sons and a daughter. About eleven days ago he was attacked with pneumonia which resulted fatally. He is survived by his wife, his father, four sons, two stepsons, five daughters, three brothers and five sisters. The funeral was held from the Lutheran church at one o'clock Thursday afternoon, March 18, 1909, Rev. R. KUEHNE officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
