Local Review
-H.M. Knodt has a full-blooded short horn pedigreed bull for
sale.
-Sam Jones, the evangelist, closed the Decorah lecture course
Wednesday night.
-Emmett McWilliams was down from Chester from Sunday until
Wednesday.
-O.J. Blessin, physician and surgeon, Specialty of diseases of
the eye and fitting glasses.
-Three young Scotch bulls for sale and some Scotch topped. R.W.
Davis, Lime Springs, Iowa.
-A desirable residence property in the west part of town for sale
or rent. Inquire of E.T. Henderson.
-The James Ewing family, old residents of Post township, left
Wednesday for Central City, Neb., to make their future home.
-Hot lunch at Bursell & Schara's.
-A lodge of Rebeccas was instituted at Elkader last Friday with
36 charter members.
-Mesdames John and Ed Waters gave a luncheon last week Thursday
at the home of the latter.
-W.C. Dresser has been laid on the shelf the past week with a
threatened attack of typhoid fever.
-Amos Haslip has moved into Winneshiek county, being located on
rural route No. 2 out of Ossian.
-Gilbert C. Chase returned Wednesday night from a landseeking
tour in South Dakota, but did not buy yet.
-Mrs. James Hoy, of Cresco, visited Postville friends from
Thursday of last week until Wednesday of this week.
-Mrs. Dr. Cole and Mrs. J.E. Perry entertained a large company of
ladies at whist and flinch last Friday afternoon.
-Gil Russell, a former Postville boy, is here visiting his
sister, Mrs. Will Lavelle, and renewing old acquaintanceships.
-Miss Josie Burling returned home from Illinois last week and
Attorney F.S. Burling is again reveling in the luxuries of a
home.
-Wm. Burling, who has been making his home at A.R. Burrett's for
the past two months, returned to Postville last week. -West Union
Argo.
-Alonzo Ruckdaschel and family are now Postville residents,
having moved in from the farm about two weeks ago, into the fine
new residence purchased from H.B. Taylor.
-Tony Huebsch and Lou Kramer, of McGregor, will soon pull out for
North Dakota, where the former will start a newspaper and the
latter engage in [copy cut off]
-Fred Ruckdaschel and wife will operate the farm of the former's
father, on the Hardin road, two miles east of town.
-H.W. Meyer, of Ridgeway, is here on a brief visit to old
friends.
-J.C. Mitchell, of Trosky, Minn., in a letter containing a
subscription remittance, says they have had a very mild winter.
-Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Topliff, of Decorah, are here visiting at the
W.F. Dresser home and with numerous old friends in Postville.
-Chas Harris, the illustrated sone artist, is still with the
Gifford-Haerring Co. Secure your seats early: a season reserved
seat for only $1.50.
-A letter from A.R. Prescott locates him at Sheridan, Wyoming,
where he says "we are enjoying life here so well that we
shall stay some months, possibly to September."
-Mike Barrett, of Crystal Lake, Minnesota, was circulating among
his legion of Postville friends Monday. He is still the same good
natured, big hearted Mike he "used to was."
-Mrs. E.B. Dayton, aged 73 years, died at the home of her son,
C.A. Dayton, in this city, Friday, March 2. The remains were
taken to Oelwein Monday where the funeral was held and interment
made. The sympathy of the community is with those who mourn.
-On Wednesday, Feb. 28th, two of Wagner township's well-known and
respected young people, Mr. Wm. H. Eno and Miss Verena Walter,
were united in marriage by Rev. Skinner, of Luana. The couple
left the same day for Sheffield, Iowa, where the groom owns a
large farm.
