SATURDAY NIGHT'S STORM
A storm accompanied by much thunder and lightning struck this
vicinity Saturday evening shortly before midnight, the lightning
doing considerable damage. A tree in F.H. Robbins' yard was
struck, also a team of horses belonging to Henry Hanson, but the
greatest damage was done on the C.O. Howard farm just north of
town where the feed barn was struck and burned to the ground with
all its contents consisting of about 70 tons of hay besides other
feed. The barn itself was an old structure, but the feed
was all this years' growth, and belonged to F.E. Kelley upon whom
the loss fall very heavily as it represented feed for many months
for his dairy cows. The fire made a great light and the
fire company pulled the hose cart nearly to the fairgrounds under
the impression that the fire was in town.
