- Street hats for 25 cents at Mrs. Currie's Millinery Store.
- Sarah Prescott returned from her vacation trip to Des Moines.
- Charley Meier, son of Chris Meier was here from National for a
visit.
- Joseph Beucher was a business visitor in Milwaukee for several
days.
- H.B. Taylor spent the week in Des Moines with his mother and
brother.
- Monday, January 7, our worthy citizen, Anton Staadt, will be 80
years old.
- Herman Thies of Little Rock arrived here Monday for a visit
with relatives.
- Fritz Heins died Monday evening at the age of 54 years, his
death being due to pneumonia.
- Mr. and Mrs. Walter Chriss are here from Cedar Rapids for a
visit in the George Lull home.
- H.M. Richmond of Decorah and Allene Shortreed of Postville,
were married in Decorah, December 24.
- The Crokinole players repaired by pairs to the home of Wm. Moll
on Sylvester evening and watched the New Year arrive.
- Mrs. Wright, the dressmaker, has reduced her prices for the
next three months. Call on her at her home across from Dr.
Greene's.
- Jacob Hangartner of Sheffield and Wm Hangartner of Estherville
were here to spend Christmas in the parental, F. Hangartner home.
- Henry Neverman of Castalia was in Cedar Rapids last week and
sold two fully equipped threshing machines to parties in this
neighborhood.
- Adolph Thias is again clerking in the Luhman & Sanders
Store. Harry Barton has gone to his home at Reinbeck and will
attend high school at Mr. Vernon.
- Christ Ruckdashel [sic Ruckdaschel] was in Cresco last week on
business and was astonished at the number of new buildings
erected there. Yes, not all towns are as slow as Postville.
- Last Sunday evening Fritz Schroeder and wife celebrated their
silver wedding at their home on the former Marston farm. A large
number of guests were present to congratulate.
- Minna Petri and her daughter of West Iowa, were here for a
visit in the home of her brother, Charles Wegner. A party was
given in their honor at the Wegner home last Friday and all those
present had a very good time.
- Last Sunday after church the Frauenverein had a meeting and
added the following new members to their organization: Mesdames
George Barreis, Henry Knodt, Jno. Timmerman, Frank Hangartner,
Henry Dahms, Wm. Koenig, Chas Ohloff and David Meyer. It is a
source of gratification to note the steady growth of this
society.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Eberling have a wide-awake new girl.
Mr. and Mrs. John Winkowitsch of Hardin have a new daughter.
Fritz Leithold, telegrapher, of Oelwein was here for a visit.
While here he had to tune a number of pianos.
Adolph Thias went to Fayette last week where he assumes the
management of the Luhman & Sanders store.
A party was entertained in the home of Fritz Baltz Saturday
evening. Some dancing was also enjoyed.
Wm. Blume, of Ludlow was here last week to have a local doctor
treat his eye. He had gotten a piece of iron imbedded in it.
Early Monday morning the stork alighted at the Wm. F. Brandt home
on the hill and deposited a sturdy 10 pound tenor singer.
Everyone is doing well, papa included.
Chas. Huebner was entertaining his sister, Mrs. Hauck of
Farmersburg, Friday and Saturday. The lady had been with her son
at Ames, who has been seriously ill with brain fever.
Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Becker, Mrs. Peter Meyer and daughter of Calmar
and Mrs. Jos. Becker and daughter Tilly of Ossian, were here
Saturday and Sunday for a visit in the Wm. Moll home.
$951 for 75 nine-months old pigs is not such a bad record. Chris.
Meier is the man who accomplished the fact of having his grunters
average 246 and have them ready to sell just the day they were 5
cents per pound.
The officers for the Postville creamery for 1901 are C.M. Kerr,
president; W.A. Martin, vice president; J.B. Hart, treasurer and
F.H. Weizel, secretary. Directors for three years, Darius Orr and
B.F. Schroeder.
A telegram received here Wednesday stated that Justin Bellows,
who accompanied Frank Tuller to Chicago Tuesday with a carload of
horses, had met with an accident at Savanna. He will likely lose
a foot as a result, which is deplorable.
Chas. Krumm, James Hanks and Mr. Dresser, drove to Waukon Tuesday
to assume jury duty.
